''Coronation Street'' is a British soap opera, initially produced by Granada Television. Created by writer Tony Warren, ''Coronation Street'' first broadcast on ITV on 9 December 1960. The following is a list of characters introduced in the show's twenty-eighth year, by order of first appearance. Sarah Platt Sarah-Louise Platt (also Tilsley and Grimshaw) is a fictional character from the British soap opera ''Coronation Street''. She was born on screen during the episode broadcast on 2 February 1987. She was played by Leah King in 1987 and by Lynsay King from 1987 until 8 October 1999 when King opted to leave to focus on her education. Tina O'Brien took over the role on 31 October 1999; she opted to leave in 2007 and made her final on-screen appearance on 30 December 2007. A number of false rumours about O'Brien returning to the role surfaced during her absence from the serial. ''Coronation Street'' is an English soap opera created by Granada Television and shown on ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres around a cobbled, terraced street in Weatherfield, a fictional town based on inner-city Salford. Rosie Webster is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. She was born on-screen during the episode broadcast on 24 December 1990. She was played by Emma Collinge from 1990 until 27 December 1999. Helen Flanagan took over the role on 23 January 2000. Flanagan took a three-month break in the summer of 2011 and returned on 26 September 2011. The character departed the show on 10 February 2012, leaving to make a reality television show, but returned on 6 February 2017 for a short stint after agreeing to return in October 2016. Ivy Joan Tilsley (originally credited as Ivy Tyldesley, also Nelson and later Brennan) is a fictional character from the British soap opera ''Coronation Street''. 1978 saw several characters making their debuts on the British Soap Opera ''Coronation Street'', including Ed Jackson, Ida Clough and Brian Tilsley, among others. Ed Jackson Thomas Edward "Ed" Jackson was one of two robbers who staged a robbery on Mike Baldwin's ( Johnny Briggs) factory. Geoffrey Hinsliff (born 1937 in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire) is an English actor best known for his portrayal of Don Brennan in '' Coronation Street'' from 1987 to 1997. George Morris Baker, MBE (1 April 19317 October 2011) was an English actor and writer. He was best known for portraying Tiberius in ''I, Claudius'', and Inspector Wexford in ''The Ruth Rendell Mysteries''. Early life Baker was born in Varna, Bulgaria. Kenneth Alan Taylor (born 1937) is a British pantomime writer and actor. He is best known for having played the pantomime dame for thirty years in his own productions at Nottingham Playhouse. Career He started writing Pantoes in 1962 in Oldham, and then moved to the Nottingham Playhouse to write there for more than 30 years.
