Raspberries (band)
The Raspberries were an American pop rock band formed in 1970 from Cleveland, Ohio. They had a run of success in the early 1970s music scene with their pop rock sound, which AllMusic later described as featuring "exquisitely crafted melodies and achingly gorgeous harmonies." The members were known for their clean-cut public image, with short-hair and matching suits, which brought them teenybopper attention as well as scorn from some mainstream media outlets as " uncool". ''Greatest'' is a 2005 compilation album by Raspberries. The album contains 20 songs, 4 to 6 from each of the group's four albums. Most of the songs on ''Greatest'' had been included on previous Raspberries' compilation albums, but the songs on ''Greatest'' were remastered using 24-bit technology, and the album included liner notes quoting three members of the band – Eric Carmen, Wally Bryson and Jim Bonfanti discussing each song. Allmusic critic Mark Deming summed up his review of ''Greatest'' saying that it "is an excellent one-stop shopping place for your Raspberries needs. Capitol Collectors Series (Raspberries Album)
''Raspberries Capitol Collectors Series'' is a 1991 compilation of 20 tracks recorded by the band between 1972 and 1974. This release was the first time that many of these songs were available on compact disc. The CD contained two unlisted extra tracks which were recordings of radio spots used to promote the albums '' Fresh Raspberries'' and '' Starting Over''. The compilation was also available on cassette. It has been out of print for several years. Most of the songs on the album were written by Eric Carmen but the album also includes "Last Dance" by guitarist Wally Bryson, "Hard to Get Over a Heartbreak" by bassist/guitarist David Smalley and "Rose Coloured Glasses" by bassist Scott McCarl. It also includes Bryson's "Party's Over". "Ecstasy" is a song written by Eric Carmen that was first released by the Raspberries on their 1973 album '' Side 3''. It was also released as a single but did not chart. Background Carmen said "Ecstasy" had a " Who/ Small Faces feel" although on songs from ''Side 3'' like "Ecstasy" and " Tonight" he felt that the band was able to be the Raspberries without being derivative of influences like the Who and the Beatles. "Ecstasy" was drummer Jim Bonfanti's favorite Raspberries' song, particularly because he "really got to let loose and play" and guitarist Wally Bryson similarly said that it was one of the greatest things the Raspberries had done. The Bee Gees were a musical group formed in 1958 by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb.
