Joe Newman (director)
Joseph M. Newman (August 17, 1909 – January 23, 2006) was an American film director most famous for his 1955 film '' This Island Earth''. His credits include episodes of ''The Twilight Zone'' and ''The Alfred Hitchcock Hour''. He was nominated for two Academy Awards in the now defunct category of Assistant Director, for '' David Copperfield'' and ''San Francisco''. He was also the last person nominated Assistant Director to die. Career Assistant director Newman first established his reputation in the industry as an assistant director at MGM. He worked on ''Clear All Wires!'' James Warren (actor)
James Warren (February 24, 1913 – March 28, 2001) was an American film actor and artist. Early life Born James Pringle Wittlig in Marietta, Ohio, he was the son of Walter Wittlig, a watchmaker, and Florence Ione Pringle. He had two brothers, the oldest Laurence Pringle Wittlig and a younger brother, David Pringle Wittlig. The Wittligs had emigrated from Langenthal, Switzerland in the 1860s. However, James did not follow in the family watchmaking tradition. His first love was art, which took him to the Pratt Art Institute of New York where he became a watercolorist and an illustrator for various magazines. Film career Warren was sighted by an MGM talent scout, who offered him a contract. Changing his name to James Warren, he, his wife, Felice, and their six-week-old son moved to Hollywood, where over the course of several years he appeared in more than 30 movies. James Millican
James Millican (February 17, 1911 – November 24, 1955) was an American actor with over 200 film appearances mostly in western movies. Millican was the son of Fred S. Millican, a circus owner, and Dorothy Millican. Millican was a close associate of cowboy star "Wild" Bill Elliott, staging a number of personal-appearance rodeos on Elliott's behalf. Millican was sent to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's dramatic school directly after graduating from University of Southern California. Margaret Bert
Margaret Bert (June 4, 1896 – May 1, 1971) was an American character actress who was most active from the 1930s through the 1950s. She was born on June 4, 1896, in Blackburn, Lancashire. She began her film career during silent films, having a small, unnamed role in the 1926 film ''The Blackbird'', starring Lon Chaney. During her lengthy career, Bert appeared in more than 150 feature films, film shorts, and television shows, mostly in un-credited roles, with many of those being as an unnamed player. Occasionally, she was given a larger supporting role, such as when she was cast as Mrs. Rogers in the 1947 comedy-drama ''Sarge Goes to College''.
