"Don't Give Up on Us" is a song by American-British singer David Soul. Riding high on the success of his role in the hit TV show ''Starsky and Hutch'', Soul returned to singing, which had been one of his early career choices. His debut, the Tony Macaulay-written-and-produced "Don't Give Up on Us" was a worldwide smash, spending four weeks at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in January and February 1977, and a single week at No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in April 1977. In addition, the song spent one week at No. 1 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart. It has sold 1.16 million copies in the UK. Its B-side, "Black Bean Soup", with lyrics by actor Gardner McKay, is a duet with actress Lynne Marta, whom Soul was involved with at the time. David Soul
David Soul (born David Richard Solberg; August 28, 1943) is an American-British actor and singer. He is known for his role as Detective Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson in the television series ''Starsky & Hutch'' from 1975 to 1979; Joshua Bolt on ''Here Come the Brides'' from 1968 to 1970; and Officer John Davis in ''Magnum Force'' in 1973. As a singer, he scored one US hit and five UK hits with songs such as " Don't Give Up on Us" (US & UK No. 1) in 1976 and " Silver Lady" (UK No. 1) in 1977. Darren Holden (born 4 July 1972) is an Irish singer-songwriter who has performed on Broadway as part of ''Riverdance'' and '' Movin' Out'' and in the national tours for both shows. His debut album, ''Suddenly'', released in Ireland and Europe in 1998, contained three Top 30 hit singles. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. The Official New Zealand Music Chart ( mi, Te Papa Tātai Waiata Matua o Aotearoa) is the weekly New Zealand top 40 singles and albums charts, issued weekly by Recorded Music NZ (formerly Recording Industry Association of New Zealand). The Irish Singles Chart is the Republic of Ireland's music industry standard singles popularity chart issued weekly by the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) and compiled on their behalf by the Official Charts Company. Chart rankings are based on sales, which are compiled through over-the-counter retail data captured electronically each day from retailers' EPOS systems. All major record shops, digital retailers and streaming services contribute to the chart, accounting for over 95% of the market. A new chart is compiled and officially released to the public by the Irish Recorded Music Association on Friday at noon. The publication was founded by Walt Grealis in February 1964, supported through its existence by record label owner Stan Klees. ''RPM'' ceased publication in November 2000. ''RPM'' stood for "Records, Promotion, Music". The magazine's title varied over the years, including ''RPM Weekly'' and ''RPM Magazine''.
