Dominic Makawiti
Dominic Were Makawiti (4 August 1955 – 20 April 2018) was a Kenyan biochemist. He served as Vice Chancellor of Maseno University and was an elected fellow and former treasurer of the African Academy of Sciences. Biography Dominic Were Makawati was born to Paul Awiti Odongo and Sulema Owuor Awiti on August 4, 1956 in Kisumu, Nyanza, Kenya. He attended Nyabondo Secondary School until 1970. He obtained a diploma in education degree from Kenya Science Teachers College, Nairobi (1976) and a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and chemistry from the University of Nairobi (1979). He received his doctorate degree in reproductive biochemistry from the King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of London (1984). Maseno University
Maseno University is a public university based in the Maseno district of the city of Kisumu, Kenya, situated along the Equator. It was fully fledged as a university in 2001, after being a constituent college of Moi University for a decade. It is one of public universities in Kenya. Institute Of Biology
The Institute of Biology (IoB) was a professional body for biologists, primarily those working in the United Kingdom. The Institute was founded in 1950 by the Biological Council: the then umbrella body for Britain's many learned biological societies. Its individual membership (as opposed to the individual membership of its affiliates) quickly grew; in the late 1990s it was as high as 16,000 but declined in the early 21st century to 11,000. It received a Royal Charter in 1979 and it held charitable status. The IoB was not a trade union, nor did it have the regulatory power over its membership (like the General Medical Council) although it did have the right to remove a member's Chartered status and was empowered by its Royal Charter to represent Britain's profession of biology. The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is a non-aligned, non-political, not-for-profit, pan-African learned society formed in 1985. The AAS elects fellows ( FAAS) and affiliates. The AAS also awards the Obasanjo Prize for Scientific Discovery and Technological Innovation every two years to an outstanding scientist who contributed to the development of the continent. King's College School Of Medicine And Dentistry
GKT School of Medical Education (abbreviated: GKT) is the medical school of King's College London. The school has campuses at three institutions, Guy's Hospital ( Southwark), King's College Hospital ( Denmark Hill) and St Thomas' Hospital ( Lambeth) in London – with the initial of each hospital making up the acronymous name of the school.
