Dominic Keegan
Dominic James Keegan (born August 1, 2000) is an American professional baseball catcher with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Formerly attending the Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Keegan committed to Vanderbilt University by June 2017, and played college baseball for the Commodores from 2019 to 2022. Although the New York Yankees drafted him in the 19th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft, Keegan chose to not sign with them and remained at Vanderbilt. Instead, he signed with the Tampa Bay Rays when they drafted him in the fourth round of the 2022 Major League Baseball draft. On August 11, Keegan was assigned to the rookie-level Florida Complex League Rays, the Rays' Florida Complex League affiliate. Catcher (baseball)
Catcher is a position in baseball and softball. When a batter takes their turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home) umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. At Bat
In baseball, an at bat (AB) or time at bat is a batter's turn batting against a pitcher. An at bat is different from a plate appearance. A batter is credited with a plate appearance regardless of what happens during their turn at bat, but a batter is credited with an at bat only if that plate appearance does not have one of the results enumerated below. While at bats are used to calculate certain statistics, including batting average and slugging percentage, a player can qualify for the season-ending rankings in these categories only if they accumulate 502 plate appearances during the season. Ole Miss Rebels Baseball
The Ole Miss Rebels baseball team represents the University of Mississippi in NCAA Division I college baseball. The team participates in the West Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They are currently coached by Mike Bianco and play at Swayze Field. They have competed in the College World Series six times, with their first national championship coming in 2022. Thrombus
A thrombus (plural thrombi), colloquially called a blood clot, is the final product of the blood coagulation step in hemostasis. There are two components to a thrombus: aggregated platelets and red blood cells that form a plug, and a mesh of cross-linked fibrin protein. The substance making up a thrombus is sometimes called cruor. A thrombus is a healthy response to injury intended to stop and prevent further bleeding, but can be harmful in thrombosis, when a clot obstructs blood flow through healthy blood vessels in the circulatory system. In the microcirculation consisting of the very small and smallest blood vessels the capillaries, tiny thrombi known as microclots can obstruct the flow of blood in the capillaries. The Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL or Cape League) is a collegiate summer baseball wooden bat league located on Cape Cod in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. One of the nation's premier collegiate summer leagues, the league boasts over one thousand former players who have gone on to play in the major leagues. Orleans Firebirds
The Orleans Firebirds, formerly the Orleans Cardinals, are a collegiate summer baseball team based in Orleans, Massachusetts. The team is a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) and plays in the league's East Division. The Firebirds play their home games at Eldredge Park in Orleans, which opened in 1913 and is the CCBL's oldest ballpark. The Firebirds are owned and operated by the non-profit Orleans Athletic Association. Orleans has won two CCBL championships in the 21st century, most recently in 2005 when they defeated the Bourne Braves two games to one to win the best of three championship series. Collegiate Summer Baseball
Collegiate summer baseball leagues are amateur baseball leagues in the United States and Canada featuring players who have attended at least one year of college and have at least one year of athletic eligibility remaining. Generally, they operate from early June to early August. In contrast to college baseball, which allow aluminum or other composite baseball bats, players in these leagues use only wooden bats, hence the common nickname of these leagues as "wood-bat leagues". Collegiate summer leagues allow college baseball players the ability to compete using professional rules and equipment, giving them experience and allowing professional scouts the opportunity to observe players under such conditions. Pat Mason
Patrick Mason was an American college baseball coach and former catcher. He was the volunteer assistant coach at Northeastern University. Mason played college baseball at Northeastern University for coach Neil McPhee from 1994 to 1997 and played in the Heartland League for one season in 1997. He served as the head coach at Virginia Tech from 2014–2017. Mason was a catcher for Northeastern for four years, before a brief minor league career. He helped lead the Huskies to a pair of conference titles in 1994 and 1997. He then earned an assistant coaching position at Boston College, his first position under Pete Hughes. After four season with the Eagles, he spent one year at Framingham State before returning to his alma mater for six seasons.
