Doi Inthanon
Doi Inthanon ( th, ดอยอินทนนท์, ) is the highest mountain in Thailand. It is in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province. This mountain is an ultra prominent peak, known in the past as ''Doi Luang'' ('big mountain') or ''Doi Ang Ga'', meaning the 'crow's pond top'. Near the mountain's base was a pond where many crows gathered. The name ''Doi Inthanon'' was given in honour of Inthawichayanon, last King of Chiang Mai, who was concerned about the forests in the north and tried to preserve them. He ordered that, after his death, his remains be interred at Doi Luang, which was then renamed in his honour. Today, the summit of Doi Inthanon is a popular tourist destination for both foreign and Thai tourists, with a peak of 12,000 visitors visiting the summit on New Year's Day. Doi Luang ( th, ดอยหลวง) is a 1,694 m high mountain in Thailand, part of the Phi Pan Nam Range. The mountain rises at the western end of Ban Tun Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province, near the point where the limit of this province meets with Lampang Province. Mae Chai District
Mae Chai ( th, แม่ใจ, ) is a district ('' amphoe'') of Phayao province in northern Thailand. History The District Mae Chai was abolished on 23 December 1917 and was incorporated into Mueang Phan district. It was recreated as a minor district (''king amphoe'') on 24 January 1963. It was upgraded to a full district on 28 July 1965. In 1977 the district was reassigned from Chiang Rai Province to the newly established Phayao Province. Geography The district is in the upper valley of the Ing River. West of the town Mae Chai is the 1,426 m high Doi Luang mountain of the Phi Pan Nam Range. It rises within a protected area in the Doi Luang National Park. To the east is the Nong Liang Sai Reservoir, and at the boundary to the Mueang District the Mae Pim Reservoir. Doi Luang National Park
Doi Luang National Park ( th, อุทยานแห่งชาติดอยหลวง) is one of the biggest national parks in Northern Thailand. It covers the Mae Suai, Phan and Wiang Pa Pao districts of Chiang Rai Province, Wang Nuea and Ngao of Lampang Province as well as Mae Chai and Mueang Phayao of Phayao Province. Description Doi Luang National Park, with an area of 730,927 rai ~ is located in the northwesternmost mountain chains of the Phi Pan Nam Range and was established in 1990 by combining the area of four existing parks. 1,426 m high Doi Luang, a mountain located towards the northern end of the park in Mae Chai District, should not be confused with Doi Luang, with an altitude of 1,694 m the highest mountain of the Phi Pan Nam Range, that is located about 30 km further south in the same mountain chain.
