Doctor Who Polystyle Comic Strip
The ''Doctor Who'' Polystyle comic strip was the first comic strip devoted to the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', and the first original spin-off media from the show. The strip was launched in '' TV Comic'' on 14 November 1964, less than a year after the television series began broadcasting. ''TV Comic'' was issued weekly, and one of a number of titles belonging to Polystyle Publications Ltd, the comic exclusively featuring strips based on television series. In 1971, the ''Doctor Who'' strip moved to another Polystyle publication, ''Countdown'' comic, for its launch. ''Countdown'' soon began amalgamating other Polystyle comics and went through a number of renamings, before in turn being amalgamated into ''TV Comic'' in 1973 (itself then going through a number of name changes). The ''Doctor Who'' comic strip survived all the changes and ran for 15 years in nearly every issue mainly in episodic format, with the last instalment appearing on 11 ...

First Doctor
The First Doctor is an incarnation of the Doctor, the protagonist of the BBC science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. He was portrayed by actor William Hartnell. Within the series' narrative, the Doctor is a centuries-old alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who travels in time and space in the TARDIS, frequently with companions. At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes. The concept of regeneration, initially referred to as a "renewal," was introduced when Hartnell needed to leave the series, due to his increasingly bad health, and consequently has extended the life of the show for many years. Hartnell's portrayal of the character was initially a stubborn and abrasive old man who was distrustful of humans, but he mellowed out into a much friendlier, grandfatherly figure who adored his travels with his companions. The First Doctor's original companions were his granddaughter Susan (Ca ...

Eleventh Doctor Comic Stories
The Eleventh Doctor comic stories ran in several regularly published titles: Doctor Who Magazine, Doctor Who Adventures and the American Doctor Who (2011). All of these comic strip adventures were supported by appearances in the ''Doctor Who'' annuals and Doctor Who Storybooks. The Eleventh Doctor also had the honour of featuring in an original graphic novel, The Only Good Dalek – something which hadn't happened since the Sixth Doctor appeared in The Age of Chaos. Though this multi-titled existence was something he had inherited from the Tenth Doctor, he was the first incarnation of the Doctor to start out in comic strips in at least two simultaneous monthly publications. He was also the first incarnation of the Doctor to debut in a comic strip other than the one in Doctor Who Magazine since the Eighth Doctor premiered in Radio Times. Doctor Who Adventures published its first Eleventh Doctor story several weeks before DWM launched his series of adventures. Comics Doctor Who Mag ...

Ninth Doctor Comic Stories
Ninth Doctor comic stories are those featuring the ninth incarnation of the Doctor from the television science fiction series ''Doctor Who''. The Ninth Doctor's brief comic tenure included the involvement of Rose Tyler. No other Doctor had a run as brief as the Ninth and none used exclusively his televised companion. The Ninth Doctor's ''Doctor Who Magazine'' run was the only one ever completely drawn by a single penciller — Mike Collins — though other eras were nearly drawn by a single artist. The Ninth Doctor's run as the incumbent Doctor was just nine ''DWM'' issues long, plus a single story in an annual, making him by far the shortest-lived Doctor in comics. An ongoing comic book was launched by Titan in 2016. Eighth Doctor Comic Stories
Eighth Doctor comic stories are two ranges of comic series that featured the adventures of the eighth incarnation of The Doctor, the protagonist of the hit sc-fi series, Doctor Who. Two separate series of original comic strips featuring the Eighth Doctor (and thus the likeness of actor Paul McGann) were published during the character's original tenure. The Radio Times published a weekly comic strip for a time. There was also the standard Doctor Who Magazine strip. The two series introduced brand-new companions, although the Eighth Doctor's only on-screen companion, Grace Holloway, also appeared twice. There were also cameo appearances by companions from past DWM series. The Master was also resurrected. During the latter period of the DWM's comic stories the stories switched from black and white strips to full colour. One of the strip's most noted fans was Russell T Davies, the future executive producer and head writer of the revived Doctor Who series. Davies had proposed that the ...

Seventh Doctor Comic Stories
The Seventh Doctor comic stories is a wide range of comic strip adventures featuring the seventh incarnation of The Doctor, the Time Lord protagonist of the hit sci-fi series, Doctor Who. History Doctor Who Magazine's Seventh Doctor comic stories began shortly after the broadcast of the Seventh Doctor's first televised story, Time and the Rani. While the cancellation of the television series in 1989 was undoubtedly bad news for Sylvester McCoy's longevity in the role, it was an unexpected boon to the Seventh Doctor's comic life. With no new Doctor on the horizon, the Seventh Doctor lived on in the pages of DWM for years after the transmission of his final televised adventure. In fact, the Seventh Doctor became the first incarnation of the Doctor to be in two regular comic publications simultaneously. Pre-figuring the Tenth Doctor's later "double-duty" in DWM and Doctor Who Adventures, the Seventh Doctor was, briefly, in both DWM and The Incredible Hulk Presents, another Marvel ...

Sixth Doctor Comic Stories
The Sixth Doctor comic stories is a range of off-screen adventures featuring the sixth incarnation of the Doctor, the protagonist of the hit sci-fi series ''Doctor Who''. Continuing the themes of the televised series, every story sees the Doctor travelling to a new destination and fighting evil and righting wrongs. History DWM launched the Sixth Doctor's comic strip adventures with the Doctor travelling on his own. His first story introduced a new companion, Frobisher — the shape-changing Whifferdill who often assumed the form of a penguin. Image rights were later obtained for Nicola Bryant, which allowed Peri to become the first humanoid televised companion regularly used in the pages of DWM. The writers even went to the trouble of trying to explain her earlier absence. Apparently, she took time away from the TARDIS to explore New York City. Since she remained the companion up to the final story of the regular run, the 1980s Sixth Doctor comics all happened somewhere between Th ...

Doctor Who Magazine
''Doctor Who Magazine'' (abbreviated as ''DWM'') is a magazine devoted to the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. Launched in 1979 as ''Doctor Who Weekly'', the magazine became a monthly publication the following year. Now with 13 issues a year, as well as currently producing triannual deluxe Special Editions (2002–) and Bookazines (2013–), the publication features behind the scenes articles on the TV show and other media, as well as producing its own world famous comic strip. Its founding editor was Dez Skinn, and the incumbent editor is Marcus Hearn, who took over from the magazine's longest-serving editor, Tom Spilsbury, in July 2017. ''DWM'' is recognised by ''Guinness World Records'' as the longest running TV tie-in magazine, celebrating 40 years of continuous publication on 11 October 2019. Marvel UK
Marvel UK was an imprint of Marvel Comics formed in 1972 to reprint US-produced stories for the British weekly comic market. Marvel UK later produced original material by British creators such as Alan Moore, John Wagner, Dave Gibbons, Steve Dillon, and Grant Morrison. There were a number of editors in charge of overseeing the UK editions. Although based in the United States, Tony Isabella oversaw the establishment of Marvel UK. He was succeeded by UK-based editors Peter L. Skingley (a.k.a. Peter Allan) and then Matt Softly – both of whom were women who adopted male pen names for the job (in reality, they were Petra Skingley and Maureen Softly). They were then replaced by Neil Tennant, who later found fame with the pop group the Pet Shop Boys. Nick Laing succeeded him, but with a turbulent market and falling sales, Laing was let go and Dez Skinn took over. Skinn revived much of the brand in his two years on the job, and was then succeeded by Bernie Jaye (another woman with a mal ...

Fourth Doctor Comic Strips
Fourth Doctor comic stories is a collection of the offscreen and comic adventures of the fourth incarnation of The Doctor, the protagonist of the long-running, hit sc-fi series, Doctor Who. History When 'Doctor Who Magazine' began publishing in 1978, the Fourth Doctor (played by Tom Baker) was the current Doctor on television. ''Doctor Who Magazine'' took over an ongoing regular comic strip presence of the Doctor's adventures from TV Comic. Central to the concept of ''Doctor Who Magazine'' (or ''Doctor Who Weekly'' as it was then), was to offer more mature comic strip adventures than had previously appeared. The ''Doctor Who Magazine'' comic strip launched with the Doctor travelling on his own. Later a number of new as well as more familiar characters were included. (These decisions were largely determined by the issue of image rights). While most of the adventures occur within their own continuity, direct references to the television series make placing these adventures into o ...
