Royal Commonwealth Pool
The Royal Commonwealth Pool is a category-A-listed building in St Leonard's, Edinburgh, Scotland that houses one of Scotland's main swimming pools. It is usually referred to simply as the Commonwealth Pool and known colloquially as the 'Commie'. History The pool was commissioned by the Council under a plan by the then Lord Provost, Sir Herbert Archbold Brechin in 1966 as part of a wider project to bring the Commonwealth Games to Edinburgh. This, with the help of other committee members such as Sir John Inch, came to fruition in October 1969. Construction began in 1967 and was completed in October 1969. The architecture was by Robert Matthew Johnson Marshall with structural input from Ove Arup & Partners. The pool was used for elite diving events hosted in Edinburgh, also being used for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the inaugural 2018 European Championships, both hosted in Glasgow. Tanya Watson
Tanya Watson (born 24 December 2001) is a diver who represents Ireland and specialises in the 10m platform. She competed in the women's 10 metre platform event at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. In 2021, she became the first Irish female diver to qualify for and compete in the Olympic Games. In 2022, she also became the first female diver to quality for and represent Team NI in the Commonwealth Games. Robyn Birch (born 10 January 1994) is a British diver. She has won a silver in synchronized 10 metre platform at the European Diving Championships. Career Birch initially competed as a gymnast, and has competed in European and World Gymnastic Championships, but in 2011 she switched to diving. She partnered with Georgia Ward in the 10m synchro event at the 2015 European Diving Championships held in Rostok, and won a silver. They also won a bronze in 10m synchro at the third FINA Diving Grand Prix event held in Gatineau, Canada that year.
