The women's 3 metre springboard diving competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place from 3 to 5 August at the Aquatics Centre within the Olympic Park. China's Wu Minxia won the gold medal and He Zi, also from China, took silver. Laura Sánchez of Mexico won the bronze. London Aquatics Centre
The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor facility with two swimming pools and a diving pool in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. The centre, designed by architect Zaha Hadid as one of the main venues of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Paralympics, was used for the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming events. After significant modification, the centre opened to the public in March 2014. Design The centre was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid in 2004 before London won the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was built alongside the Water Polo Arena and opposite the Olympic Stadium on the opposite bank of the Waterworks River. The site is high, long, and wide. Wendy Ng Yan Yee (born 11 July 1993) is a Malaysian diver. Career Early beginning Ng begin diving at the age of 13 at Bandar Tun Razak Swimming Pool. She was a rhythmic gymnast but her talent was spotted by the national coach, Yang Zhuliang due to her "physical build was good for diving". 2012 Summer Olympics She competed 3 m springboard at the 2012 Summer Olympics. 2016 Summer Olympics Ng finished 11th in 3 metre springboard at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia and qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Cheong Jun Hoong () (born 16 April 1990) is a Malaysian diver. She won a silver medal in the synchronised 10m platform event with Pandelela Rinong at the 2016 Summer Olympics. At the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, she became Malaysia's first diving world champion after winning the 10m platform event. Early and personal life Cheong Jun Hoong was born in Ipoh, Perak. Wu Minxia (; born 10 November 1985) is a retired Chinese Diving (sport), diver, specializing in the 1 metre and 3 metre springboard, and synchronized 3 metre springboard events. Entering her first major championship in 2001, Wu represented China at every Asian Games, Olympic Games and FINA World Aquatics Championships through 2016. She is an eight-time world champion, and a five-time Olympic and Asian champion, making her one of the most decorated divers in history.
