Clarence Pinkston
Clarence Elmer "Bud" Pinkston (February 1, 1900 – November 18, 1961) was an American diver. Born in Wichita, Kansas, he attended San Diego High where he won a Gymnastics title at age 15. He is the first San Diegan to win an Olympic Gold Medal. Pinkston attended college at Oregon State University and Stanford University. Pinkston won a gold medal in 10 metre platform diving and a silver medal in 3 metre springboard diving at the 1920 Summer Olympics; he won two bronze medals in the same two events at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Pinkston met Elizabeth "Betty" Becker at the 1924 Games; they later married and Pink became Betty's coach. Betty and Clarence were avid supporters of the swimming and diving program at the Detroit Athletic Club. Erik Adlerz
Erik Wilhelm "Loppan" Adlerz (23 July 1892 – 8 September 1975) was a Swedish diver who competed at the 1908, 1912, 1920 and 1924 Summer Olympics. In 1908 he was eliminated in the first round in the 10 metre platform event. Four years later he won gold medals in the 10 m platform and plain high diving. In 1920 he won the silver medal in the 10 m platform; in the plain high diving event he finished fourth next to three Swedish teammates. In 1924 he finished fourth in the 10 m platform and failed to reach the final in the plain high diving. He was the elder brother of Märta Adlerz, who competed in swimming at the 1912 Olympics. Hal Haig "Harry" Prieste (November 23, 1896 – April 19, 2001) was an Armenian-American athlete who participated in the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp as a diver. Biography He was born Haig Prieste in Fresno, California to Armenian immigrant parents. Their original surname was Keshishian. "Haig" is the name of the progenitor of the Armenians. Prieste first took "Harry" as his American name, but later switched to "Hal." He won a bronze medal in platform diving as a member of the 1920 US Olympic team. He also competed in the 1920 plain high diving event, but was eliminated in the first round. He is known for taking the original five-interlocking-ring Olympic flag as a prank at the 1920 Summer Olympics hosted by the city of Antwerp, Belgium. Divers performed a standing plain dive and a running plain dive from the 10 metre platform, a running plain dive and a backward somersault from the 5 metre platform, and three dives of the competitor's choice from the 10 metre platform.
