Distort
In signal processing, distortion is the alteration of the original shape (or other characteristic) of a signal. In communications and electronics it means the alteration of the waveform of an information-bearing signal, such as an audio signal representing sound or a video signal representing images, in an electronic device or communication channel. Distortion is usually unwanted, and so engineers strive to eliminate or minimize it. In some situations, however, distortion may be desirable. For example, in noise reduction systems like the Dolby system, an audio signal is deliberately distorted in ways that emphasize aspects of the signal that are subject to electrical noise, then it is symmetrically "undistorted" after passing through a noisy communication channel, reducing the noise in the received signal. Distortion is also used as a musical effect, particularly with electric guitars. The addition of noise or other outside signals ( hum, interference) is not considered ...

Distort (album)
''Distort'' is a remix album by Collide, released on January 13, 1998 by Re-Constriction Records. The album was remastered and re-released with a few additional tracks for the 2006 release. Reception Aiding & Abetting called the music on ''Distort'' "hit-and-miss" and that "the remixes here aren't uniformly as adventurous or ambitious as the band itself, but many do well." AllMusic awarded the album three out of five stars and said " Collide continue to expand their basic industrial sound on Collide, which incorporates techno and goth elements as well as an ethereal sheen reminiscent of the vintage 4AD label sound." Sonic Boom called the collection "one of the best remix albums released in recent memory for not only the depth and extreme diversity of the remixes but for the track selection as well making this record a definite must have." ''Lollipop Magazine'' criticized the album for being a poor introduction to the band's art and unnecessary. Ink 19 called the album "original ...

Collide (band)
Collide is an American industrial music duo formed in Los Angeles in 1992, that has incorporated elements of trip hop, synthpop and music from the Middle East into their sound. The name comes from the 'collision' of musical styles, primarily the ethereal vocals provided by kaRIN and the electronic music provided by Statik. Collide's debut album, '' Beneath the Skin'', was released in 1996, followed by a remix album, ''Distort'', in 1998 containing remixes by artists such as Kneel Cohn of the bands Spirits In Sin and The Dead Stars On Hollywood. Dissatisfied with the music industry, Collide started their own record label, Noiseplus Music, and in 2000, they released their second studio album, ''Chasing the Ghost''. It was pressed in limited quantity cassette tape and all track versions are different from those on later releases. Songs on side two of the album remain unreleased elsewhere. Three years later, they released their third studio album, ''Some Kind of Strange''. The fo ...

Distort Entertainment
Distort Entertainment is a Canadian independent record label based in Toronto, Ontario. The label specializes in bands performing hardcore punk-derived music, including Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats and Johnny Truant, but its sister division Distort Light has also released less aggressive rock bands such as Bend Sinister. History Formed by Greg Below, (concert promoter and owner of Distort Productions) and Mitch Joel, (music journalist and publicist) in early 2002, Distort began by producing New Jersey's Step Kings' third release, ''3 The Hard Way''. The label's slogan "Listen Harder" was soon formed and showed Distort's specialization in heavy music. In 2002, Below's full-time employment as a studio manager with EMI publishing Canada later helped to jump start Distort by opening the door to a distribution partnership with EMI Music Canada. Although Distort is admired for its independence in the industry, it wanted to be associated with the well respected quality for which EMI had be ...
