Diocese Of Ilagan
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Ilagan (Lat: ''Dioecesis Ilaganensis'') is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. It was erected on 31 January 1970 from territory of the then Roman Catholic Diocese of Tuguegarao and it covers the entire civil Province of Isabela. It is a suffragan diocese of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuguegarao. The diocese has had no jurisdictional changes. The seat of the diocese used to be located in Saint Ferdinand Parish Church in Ilagan City before being transferred to the Gamu Cathedral (Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel) in Gamu, Isabela, in 2013. David William Antonio, David William V. Antonio, S.Th.D., D.D. was installed as the fifth Bishop of Ilagan on February 12, 2019. List Of Catholic Dioceses In The Philippines
This is a list of the Catholic dioceses in the Philippines (Mga Katolikong diyosesis ng Pilipinas). The dioceses' bishops comprise the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), an episcopal conference. The dioceses are grouped into ecclesiastical provinces, each of which comprises a Metropolitan archdiocese and several suffragan dioceses and is headed by the archbishop, as the metropolitan bishop of the province. Currently, there are 16 ecclesiastical provinces in the Philippines. Apostolic vicariates and the military ordinariate are Exemption (church), not part of any ecclesiastical province, but are included in the table. Like diocesan bishops, they are the ordinary (church officer), ordinary responsible for spiritual care the Catholics under them and are directly subject to the Holy See. Suffragan Diocese
A suffragan diocese is one of the dioceses other than the metropolitan archdiocese that constitute an ecclesiastical province. It exists in some Christian denominations, in particular the Catholic Church, the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, and the Romanian Orthodox Church. In the Catholic Church, although such a diocese is governed by its own bishop or ordinary, who is the suffragan bishop, the metropolitan archbishop has in its regard certain rights and duties of oversight. He has no power of governance within a suffragan diocese, but has some limited rights and duties to intervene in cases of neglect by the authorities of the diocese itself. Sergio Lasam Utleg, D.D., (born in Solana, Cagayan, September 11, 1943), is a prelate of the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines. He is the former Archbishop of Tuguegarao in Tuguegarao, Philippines and succeeded Archbishop Diosdado Talamayan. On October 18, 2019, his resignation was accepted by Pope Francis, appointing Alaminos Bishop Ricardo Baccay as his successor. Life and church Sergio Utleg was ordained priest of Tuguegarao, Philippines on March 30, 1968. He was ordained Bishop on March 17, 1997 in St. Peter's Cathedral, Tuguegarao, Cagayan. He then succeeded as Bishop of Ilagan on July 26, 1999. Miguel Purugganan
Miguel Gatan Purugganan (November 18, 1931 – July 8, 2011) was a Filipino prelate of the Catholic Church who served as the Bishop of Ilagan and became a prominent critic of the dictatorship of President Ferdinand Marcos during the Martial Law era. Early life and Education Miguel Gatan Purugganan was born in Cabagan, Isabela on November 18, 1931. He prepared for the priesthood first as a high school seminarian in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, then at the University of Santo Tomas, in Manila. He was ordained in 1957. Subsequently, he took a doctorate degree in canon law at the Gregorian University in Rome, attaining ''summa cum laude''. He proceeded to take another doctorate degree, this time in theology, but was unable to complete after being ordered to return to the Philippines. Priesthood Purugganan started his priestly career as seminary prefect of discipline.
