The Diocese of Singapore (russian: Сингапурская епархия) is a diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) which covers the territory of Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea. It is part of the Patriarchal Exarchate in South-East Asia (PESEA). The primate of the diocese of Singapore is also the primate of the PESEA. An exarch (; from Ancient Greek ἔξαρχος ''exarchos'', meaning “leader”) was the holder of any of various historical offices, some of them being political or military and others being ecclesiastical. In the late Roman Empire and early Byzantine Empire, an ''exarch'' was a governor of a particular territory. In Christian churches with episcopal polity, the rank of metropolitan bishop, or simply metropolitan (alternative obsolete form: metropolite), pertains to the diocesan bishop or archbishop of a metropolis. Originally, the term referred to the bishop of the chief city of a historical Roman province, whose authority in relation to the other bishops of the province was recognized by the First Council of Nicaea (AD 325).
