Chart Attack
''Chart Attack'' was a Canadian online music publication. Formerly a monthly print magazine called ''Chart'', it was published from 1991 to 2009. While the web version appears to be available online, the domain is now used as a popular media outlet, similar to BuzzFeed, almost entirely excluding music. Content ceased to be updated from mid 2017 to 2019 when owner Channel Zero laid off the site's staff. History and profile Launched in 1991 as ''National Chart'', the magazine was started by York University students Edward Skira and Nada Laskovski as a tipsheet and airplay chart for campus radio stations in Canada. The magazine soon grew to include interviews, CD reviews and other features. First Words
First Words was a Canadian hip hop group, consisting of Halifax beatmaker Jorun Bombay, DJ STV and emcees Above and Sean One (Sean McInerney). The group released two albums and an EP, as well as contributing tracks to several hiphop compilations, and was active from 2004 to 2008. History In 2004, First Words recorded the song "Down With Putting Raps Down", which was featured on the National Campus and Community Radio Association's ''Dig Your Roots'' hip hop compilation album. Also in 2004, First Words released a 16-track self-titled album of original material, and received a positive review in ''Exclaim!''. The album was Deadbeats Entertainment's first release, kicking off the label's focus on local music. Their pre-release peaked at #1 on the top 30 and hip hop charts of Fredericton, New Brunswick's CHSR. ''Rap Essentials Volume One'' is a Canadian hip hop compilation album, released in 1996 on Beat Factory, Beat Factory Music, and distributed by EMI, EMI Music Canada. It is considered a landmark hip-hop album, and it was very influential. Three songs from the album—"Naughty Dread" by Kardinal Offishall, "Fitnredi" by Rascalz, and "Bright Lights, Big City" by Scales Empire—were nominated for Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year, Best Rap Recording at the Juno Awards of 1997, 1997 Juno Awards. ''Exclaim!'' is a Canadian music and entertainment publisher based in Toronto, which features in-depth coverage of new music across all genres with a special focus on Canadian and emerging artists. The monthly Exclaim! print magazine publishes 7 issues per year, distributing over 103,000 copies to over 2,600 locations across Canada. The magazine has an average of 361,200 monthly readers and their website, exclaim.ca, has an average of 675,000 unique visitors a month. History ''Exclaim!'' began as a discussion among campus and community radio programmers at Ryerson's CKLN-FM in 1991.
