The ''Dictionary of Standard Modern Greek'' ( el, Λεξικό της κοινής Νεοελληνικής) is a monolingual dictionary of Modern Greek published by the ''Institute of Modern Greek Studies (Manolis Triantafyllidis Foundation)'' (named after Manolis Triantafyllidis), at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1998. Emmanuel Kriaras
Emmanuel G. Kriaras (Greek: Εμμανουήλ Γ. Κριαράς; 28 November 1906 – 22 August 2014) was a Greek lexicographer and philologist. He was Emeritus Professor of the School of Philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He was a student of Jean Psychari and the practice and ideology of demotic Greek. Early life and education Kriaras was born in Piraeus in Attica, Greece in 1906 to a family of Cretan origin and spent his early childhood on the island of Milos, the southwesternmost of the Cyclades. In 1914 his family moved to Chania, Crete, where he completed his secondary education. He studied at the University of Athens from 1924, where he graduated from the School of Philosophy in 1929. Professional life Kriaras worked in the medieval archives of the Academy of Athens, where he started in 1930. He was appointed principal in 1939. Ioannis Kakridis
Ioannis Kakridis ( el, Ιωάννης Κακριδής) (17 November 1901 – 20 March 1992) was a Greek classical scholar and was one of the leading scholars of Homeric Poetry in the twentieth century. He was born in Athens in 1901 and received his PhD at the University of Athens. He went on to become a professor at the universities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Tübingen, Stockholm, Lund and Uppsala. Kakridis was a Homer scholar and one of the most important classicists of twentieth-century Greece. He was also an early and staunch advocate of the adoption of the monotonic system in the Greek language. In 1941, he was denounced by the faculty of the University of Athens for republishing a lecture in the monotonic system, which led to the so-called "Trial of Accents" and his suspension and later dismissal from the university.Demaras, K.
