Leigh Ashford was a Canadian rock group formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and which existed between 1966 and 1974. History The group was formed in 1967 by, the guitarist Gord Waszek, drummer Dave Cairns, bassist Joe Agnello and keyboard player Newton Garwood. With Garwood as keyboardist, the band opened for The Vanilla Fudge. Revolution Records was a Canadian Record company. It was also the parent company for the Revolver label. It had success with hits from artists such as Dianne Brooks and Motherlode. Background Incorporated in October 1968, the company was co-founded by Mort Ross, Doug Riley and Terry Brown. The company started up in February, 1969. They were located at 31 Prince Arthur Avenue, Toronto. Ross was a veteran Canadian composer, instrumentalist and arranger. He also composed advertising jingles. In the beginning the intention wasn't to start off as a record company. They wanted to build a recording facility with equipment superior to that of other Canadian studios at the time. But with the studio having been built and ready for business in August 1969, two Doug Riley demos that had been recorded with Dianne Brooks as the vocalist. Buzz Shearman
''A Tribute to Buzz Shearman'' is a compilation/tribute album by the Canadian rock group Moxy in the band's original incarnation with Buzz Shearman, Earl Johnson, Buddy Caine, Bill Wade and Terry Juric. The album is a tribute to Moxy vocalist Buzz Shearman (who died in a motorbike accident in 1983) from his wife Valerie. She was an executive with the indie label Ahed Records Of Canada and released the album. The album collects some of the band's best-known and three previously unreleased songs called "Trouble", "Eyeballs" and "Highway" with Shearman on vocals. The back cover of the album features a nice testimonial from San Antonio's disc jockey known as the godfather of rock, Joe Anthony, who wrote : ''"Buzz had that special quality in his voice that carried a smile and a lift. Tom Northcott (born August 29, 1943 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) is a Canadian folk-rock singer with hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Musical career He became known to a Canadian audience by his regular appearances on CBC Television's '' Let's Go'' music program in 1964-68. He was nominated as best male vocalist for a Juno Award in 1971. Later he co-founded Mushroom Studios in Vancouver and produced records. His hits are played regularly on Canadian classic rock radio stations. "She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not" (1965) was by 'Tom Northcott & the Vancouver Playboys'; the Playboys were an established band that had played around British Columbia since 1962. Northcott joined the band on a tour in 1965, and issued the single on his own label. It appears on Julius La Rosa's 1966 album ''You're Gonna Hear from Me'', Eric Burdon's 1967 album ''Eric Is Here'', on Newman's 1968 debut album '' Randy Newman'', in '' The Randy Newman Songbook Vol. 1'' (2003), and in Newman's official and bootleg live albums. It is one of his most covered songs. Background Newman told ''Rolling Stone'' that he wrote the song around 1963 or 1964. He went on to say that the "music is emotional – even beautiful – and the lyrics are not." Newman also said that the song bothered him due to the darkness and that the song felt "sophomoric" and "too maudlin". Newman stated in 2017 that he had signed away the publishing rights on his first album and as a result, does not see any money from people doing covers of those songs.
