Diarmuid Ó Mathúna's GAA
Diarmuid Ó Mathúna is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in Castletown-Kinneigh, in Cork, Republic of Ireland. The club has both hurling and Gaelic football teams. The club is part of Cork GAA and also part of the Carbery GAA division. In 2008, the club reached its first ever county final, when it lost to Dripsey in the Cork Junior Hurling Championship final. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Castletown-Kinneigh
Castletown-Kinneigh (), also known simply either as Castletown or as Kinneigh, is a small rural village near Ballineen in County Cork, Ireland. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Carbery GAA is a Gaelic football and Hurling division in the south-west area of County Cork, Ireland. The division is one of eight divisions of the Cork County Board and a division is responsible for organising competitions for the clubs within the division from Under 12 up to adult level The winners of these competitions compete against other divisional champions to determine which club is the county champion. The South West Junior A Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the RCM Tarmacadam Carbery Junior A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Carbery Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1925 for junior hurling teams in the Barony of Carbery in County Cork, Ireland. The series of games begin in May, with the championship culminating with the final in September. The championship includes a knock-out stage and a "back door" for teams defeated in the first round.
