Dey was the title given to the rulers of the Regency of Algiers from 1671. It was also used in Tunisia between 1591-1860. Regency Of Algiers
The Regency of Algiers ( ar, دولة الجزائر, translit=Dawlat al-Jaza'ir) was a state in North Africa lasting from 1516 to 1830, until it was conquered by the French. Situated between the regency of Tunis in the east, the Sultanate of Morocco (from 1553) in the west and Tuat as well as the country south of In Salah in the south (and the Spanish and Portuguese possessions of North Africa), the Regency originally extended its borders from La Calle in the east to Trara in the west and from Algiers to Biskra, and afterwards spread to the present eastern and western borders of Algeria. It had various degrees of autonomy throughout its existence, in some cases reaching complete independence, recognized even by the Ottoman sultan. Lal Behari Dey
Reverend Lal Behari Day (also Dey, 18 December 1824 – 28 October 1892) was an Indian writer and journalist, who converted to Christianity, and became a Christian missionary himself. Biography Lal Behari Dey was born on 18 December 1824 to a Bengali Suvarna Banik caste family at Sonapalasi near Bardhaman. His father Radhakanta Dey Mondal was a small bill broker in Kolkata. After primary education in the village school he came to Calcutta with his father and was admitted to Reverend Alexander Duff's General Assembly Institution, where he studied from 1834 to 1844. (Duff's Institution is now the Scottish Church Collegiate School; he was one of the first five boys admitted by Duff.) Under Duff's tutelage he formally embraced Christianity on 2 July 1843. De or Dey is a surname commonly used by the Bengali community. De/Dey is derived from the last name Deb/Dev or Deva. William Dey
William Ernest Dey (June 4, 1870 – August 20, 1921) was an early amateur ice hockey player for the Ottawa Hockey Club. He was a member of the Dey family of Ottawa, Canada which was successful in boat-building, arenas and ice hockey businesses. He was born in Ottawa. Playing career Dey first joined the senior Ottawa Hockey Club in 1892. He played six seasons with Ottawa HC, retiring after the 1897 season. He died in Ottawa in 1921 after an illness and is buried at Beechwood Cemetery. Tracey Dey (born Nora Ferrari, April 21, 1943) is an American former pop singer in the girl group genre of the early and mid-1960s. Career Born in Yonkers, New York, United States, she was attending college at Fordham University when producer Bob Crewe became aware of a demo tape she had recorded. Crewe signed her to his production company, Genius Inc., and had her record "Jerry (I'm Your Sherry)", an "answer" to The Four Seasons' "Sherry", which Crewe had also produced. Released by The 4 Seasons' label, Vee Jay, the record reportedly received airplay on New York radio (and made the top ten at KYNO in Fresno, California), but did not become a national hit. Ted Dey
Edwin Peter "Ted" Dey (April 21, 1864 – April 15, 1943) was a boat-builder, ice arena owner, and hockey team owner. He was an owner of the Ottawa Senators men's ice hockey club from 1917 until 1923. He and his brothers Frank Edgar Dey and William Ernest Dey built the various Dey's Arenas where the Senators played until 1922–23. Career Born in Hull, Quebec, Ted Dey was one of three brothers and two sisters born to Joseph Dey and Annie Buckley. His father was a boat-builder in Ottawa. The brothers, William, Frank and Ted followed their father into the boat-building business. The business, now named "Dey Brothers" had a boat works on the Rideau Canal at Theodore Street (today's Laurier Avenue), where they built small boats and canoes for racing. Tamal Krishna Dey (born 1964) is an Indian mathematician and computer scientist specializing in computational geometry and computational topology. He is a professor at Purdue University. Education and career Dey graduated from Jadavpur University in 1985, with a bachelor's degree in electronics.
