Dermatocarpon Moulinsii
''Dermatocarpon moulinsii'' is a species of saxicolous (rock-dwelling), foliose lichen in the family Verrucariaceae. It is distinguished from other members of ''Dermatocarpon'' by the presence of rhizines on its underside. In North America, it occurs as mainly a western montane species. The lichen was originally described by Camille Montagne in 1843 as a species of ''Endocarpon''. It is named after French naturalist Charles des Moulins, who collected the type specimen in France. Jean Pierre François Camille Montagne (15 February 1784 – 5 December 1866) was a French military physician and botanist who specialized in the fields of bryology and mycology. He was born in the commune of Vaudoy in the department of Seine-et-Marne. At the age of 14, Montagne joined the French navy, and took part in Napoleon's invasion of Egypt. In 1802 he returned to France to study medicine, and two years later became a military surgeon. In 1832, at the age of 48 he retired from military service to concentrate on the study of cryptogams ( mosses, algae, lichens and fungi). In 1853 he was elected a member of the Académie des sciences. In 1845 he was one of the first scientists (with Marie-Anne Libert) to provide a description of ''Phytophthora infestans'', a potato blight fungus he referred to as ''Botrytis infestans''. Charles Des Moulins, full name Charles Robert Alexandre Des Moulins (13 March 1798 – 23 December 1875) was a French naturalist, a botanist and malacologist. He was a member of several learned societies, including the American Philosophical Society, which elected him an international Member in 1861, and the ''Société linnéenne de Bordeaux'', of which he served as its president in 1826. Verrucariales
Verrucariales is an order of ascomycetous fungi within the subclass Chaetothyriomycetidae of the class Eurotiomycetes. Although most of the Verrucariales are lichenised, the family Sarcopyreniaceae consists of 11 species of lichenicolous (lichen-dwelling) fungi. Phylogenomic analysis suggests that the divergence between the lichenized Verrucariales and nonlichenized Chaetothyriales The Chaetothyriales are an order of ascomycetous fungi in the class Eurotiomycetes and within the subclass Chaetothyriomycetidae. Alexander Zahlbruckner (31 May 1860, Svätý Jur – 1938, Vienna) was an Austrian- Hungarian botanist who specialized in the study of lichens. Johann Babtist Zahlbruckner, an earlier Austrian botanist, was his grandfather. From 1878 to 1883 he studied at the University of Vienna, where his instructors included Anton Kerner von Marilaun and Julius Wiesner. Afterwards, he served as a voluntary assistant to Günther Beck von Mannagetta und Lerchenau at the Naturhistorisches Museum in Vienna, where he later attained the titles of assistant curator (from 1897), curator (from 1899) and head curator (from 1912). From 1918 until his retirement in 1922, he was director of the museum's botany department. From 1920, he was member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences In retirement, he continued his studies in the field of lichenology.
