Derekh Eretz (political Faction)
Derekh Eretz ( he, דרך ארץ, , The Way of the Land) is a centre-right political party in Israel. It was formed in March 2020 by Zvi Hauser and Yoaz Hendel after they left Telem. History On 2 March 2020, elections were held for the Twenty-third Knesset, in which Zvi Hauser and Yoaz Hendel ran for the Knesset as a part of the Telem Party and the larger Blue and White alliance. In the election, the alliance received 1,220,381 votes and 33 seats in the Knesset, making them the second largest parliamentary group behind the right-wing Likud Party. Although they came in second, Blue and White, and their leader, Benny Gantz, received the recommendations of a majority of Knesset members to form a government. However, many in the alliance, including Hauser and Hendel, feared the formation of a minority government with the support of the Joint List. Yoaz Hendel
Yoaz Hendel ( he, יוּעַז הֶנְדֶּל; born 22 May 1975) is an Israeli politician, serving as the Minister of Communications since 2021, as well as previously from May to December 2020. He was originally elected as a member of the Blue and White alliance in 2019, before leaving to form Derekh Eretz in March 2020. A military historian by training, Hendel previously worked as a journalist, was the chairman of the Institute for Zionist Strategies (IZS), and taught academic courses at Bar-Ilan University. Between 2011 and 2012 he served as Director of Communications and Public Diplomacy for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Reuven Rivlin
Reuven "Ruvi" Rivlin ( he, רְאוּבֵן "רוּבִי" רִיבְלִין ; born 9 September 1939) is an Israeli politician and lawyer who served as the tenth president of Israel between 2014 and 2021. He is a member of the Likud party. Rivlin was Minister of Communications from 2001 to 2003, and subsequently served as Speaker of the Knesset from 2003 to 2006 and 2009 to 2013. On 10 June 2014, he was elected President of Israel. His term ended on 7 July 2021. Political Parties In Israel
Israel's political system is based on proportional representation and allows for a multi-party system with numerous parties represented in the 120-seat Knesset. A typical Knesset includes many factions represented. This is because of the low election threshold required for a seat – 1 percent of the vote from 1949 to 1992, 1.5 percent from 1992 to 2003, 2 percent from 2003 to 2014, and 3.25 percent since 2015. In the 2015 elections, for instance, ten parties or alliances cleared the threshold, and five of them won at least ten seats. The low threshold, in combination with the nationwide party-list system, makes it all but impossible for a single party to win the 61 seats needed for a majority government. 2021 Israeli Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Israel on 23 March 2021 to elect the 120 members of the 24th Knesset. It was the fourth election in two years. Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett announced that they had formed a rotation government on 2 June 2021, which was approved on 13 June 2021. Yamina or Yemina (; ) is an Israeli political alliance of right-wing parties that originally included the New Right and the Union of Right-Wing Parties (a union of The Jewish Home and Tkuma). The current incarnation of the alliance includes only the New Right, as The Jewish Home left the alliance on 14 July 2020, and the Religious Zionist Party left on 20 January 2021. The list was created ahead of the September 2019 Israeli legislative election, in which Yamina secured seven seats in the Knesset.
