Walter Braunfels
Walter Braunfels (; 19 December 1882 – 19 March 1954) was a German composer, pianist, and music educator. Life Walter Braunfels was born in Frankfurt. His first music teacher was his mother, the great-niece of the composer Louis Spohr. He continued his piano studies in Frankfurt at the Hoch Conservatory with James Kwast. Braunfels studied law and economics at the university in Munich until after a performance of Richard Wagner's ''Tristan und Isolde'' he decided on music. He went to Vienna in 1902 to study with the pianist and teacher Theodor Leschetizky. He then returned to Munich to study composition with Felix Mottl and Ludwig Thuille. Franz Grillparzer
Franz Seraphicus Grillparzer (15 January 1791 – 21 January 1872) was an Austrian writer who was considered to be the leading Austrian dramatist of the 19th century. His plays were and are frequently performed at the famous Burgtheater in Vienna. He also wrote the oration for Ludwig van Beethoven's funeral, as well as the epitaph for his friend Franz Schubert. While writing during the period of Romanticism, Grillparzer's poetic language owes far more to the period of Classicism which reigned during his formative years. Committed to the classical ideals of aesthetic beauty and morality, his plots shy away from the realism which developed during his time, preferring instead to use the theater to address spiritual values, which in the words of the dying queen of his Libussa, would only come after the period of Materialism had passed. Bruno Walter
Bruno Walter (born Bruno Schlesinger, September 15, 1876February 17, 1962) was a German-born conductor, pianist and composer. Born in Berlin, he escaped Nazi Germany in 1933, was naturalised as a French citizen in 1938, and settled in the United States in 1939. Otto Von Rohr
Otto von Rohr (24 February 1914 – 5 July 1982) was a German operatic bass. Life Von Rohr was born in Berlin. After his education at the Musikhochschule Berlin with Hermann Weißenborn, he made his debut 1938 at the Theater Duisburg as Sarastro in ''The Magic Flute''. Annelies Kupper
Annelies Kupper (21 July 1906 – 8 December 1987), was a German operatic soprano, particularly associated with Mozart and the German repertory. Kupper was born at Glatz (now Kłodzko) in Lower Silesia. She studied in Breslau and was a music teacher there before making her operatic debut in 1935. She then appeared in Schwerin (1937–38), Weimar (1938–40), Hamburg (1940–46), Munich (1946–61). She sang Eva in ''Die Meistersinger'' at the Bayreuth festival, in 1944, and returned as Elsa in ''Lohengrin'' in 1960. She created Danae in Richard Strauss's ''Die Liebe der Danae'' at the Salzburg festival, in 1952. Kupper was especially admired as Countess Almaviva, in addition to Wagner and Strauss roles, she also gained considerable acclaim as Aida and Desdemona (in '' Otello''). Heinrich Bensing
Heinrich Bensing (26 July 1911 – 30 December 1955) was a German opera singer. Life Bensing was born in Metz. After the Second World War, he had guest contracts with the Hamburg State Opera (1947-1955), with the Vienna State Opera (1949-1954) and with the Cologne Opera House. After 1945 he sang ''Don José'' in ''Carmen'', the title role in '' The Tales of Hoffmann'', the Duke of Mantua in '' Rigoletto'', Radames in '' Aida'', the title role in ''Don Carlos'' and Pinkerton in ''Madama Butterfly''. He died in Frankfurt at age 42. Repertoire Bensing was especially considered a valued singer in the Italian repertoire. He belonged to the "small circle of German tenors who possessed vocal brilliance and power for the great parts of Italian opera."
