''Der Hexer'' (aka ''The Ringer'', ''The Wizard'' or ''The Mysterious Magician'') is a 1964 West German black and white mystery film directed by Alfred Vohrer and starring Joachim Fuchsberger. It was part of a very successful series of German films based on the writings of Edgar Wallace and adapted from the 1925 novel titled ''The Ringer'' (originally: ''The Gaunt Stranger''). In 1965, a sequel ''Neues vom Hexer'' (''Again the Ringer'') was released. Alfred Vohrer (29 December 1914 – 3 February 1986) was a German film director and actor. He directed 48 films between 1958 and 1984. His 1969 film ''Seven Days Grace'' was entered into the 6th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1972 film '' Tears of Blood'' was entered into the 8th Moscow International Film Festival. Karl John (24 March 1905 – 22 December 1977) was a German film actor who appeared in more than 50 films between 1933 and 1977. Early life John was born in Cologne, Germany. He studied architecture at the Technische Hochschule in Danzig. But he soon discovered his love for the stage and moved to Berlin where he took acting lessons. Career At 26 he made his debut performance at a theater in Boleslawiec. John made his first film appearance in the 1932 thriller ''The White Demon'' which also starred Hans Albers in the lead role.
