Department Of Rural Development And Land Reform
The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform was, from 2009 to 2019, one of the departments of the South African government. It was responsible for topographic mapping, cadastral surveying, deeds registration, and land reform. The department fell under the responsibility of the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, which for most of the department's existence was Gugile Nkwinti (2010 to 2018). The department's name was commonly abbreviated DRDLR. Significant components of the department included the Deeds Registries, the office of the Chief Surveyor-General, the Chief Directorate: National Geo-spatial Information (South Africa's national mapping agency), and the Land Claims Commission. In modern mapping, a topographic map or topographic sheet is a type of map characterized by large- scale detail and quantitative representation of relief features, usually using contour lines (connecting points of equal elevation), but historically using a variety of methods. Gugile Nkwinti
Gugile Ernest Nkwinti (born 18 December 1946) is a South African politician, previously serving in the Cabinet of South Africa as the Minister of Water and Sanitation and before as the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform. Education and career He holds a diploma in nursing (psychiatry) as well as a bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration and Applied Economics at Unisa. From 1972 to 1984 he worked as a professional nurse. From 1984 to 1989 he worked for the UDF, in the Eastern Cape, and he also worked as a research assistant in the department of psychology at Rhodes University. From 1990 to 1991 he served as the UDF and ANC regional secretary in the Eastern Cape. A national mapping agency is an organisation, usually publicly owned, that produces topographic maps and geographic information of a country. Some national mapping agencies also deal with cadastral matters.
