2000 PDC World Darts Championship
The 2000 Skol World Darts Championship was the seventh World Championship organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It was held between 28 December 1999 and 4 January 2000 at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex. Phil Taylor beat Dennis Priestley in the final by 7 sets to 3, thus notching up his sixth successive World Championship and his eighth overall. As the tournament is staged earlier in the calendar year than most other World Championships in sport, Sky Sports commentators claimed that Taylor was the "first World Champion of the new millennium". For Priestley, it was the fourth time that he had lost to Taylor in the final in five years. Eric Bristow's first-round defeat to American Steve Brown virtually signalled the end of the legendary player's career at the top level: this was to be the last time he appeared at a World Championship, having done so in 23 consecutive years stretching back to the inaugural event of 1978. John Lowe thus became the last remaini ...

1999 PDC World Darts Championship
The 1999 Skol World Darts Championship was held between 28 December 1998 and 3 January 1999 at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex. After five years, organisers of the Professional Darts Corporation scrapped the group stages and the tournament became a straight knock-out for the first time. The third-place play-off which had been a feature for the previous two years was also abandoned. The field was expanded from 24 to 32 players – the biggest influx of players since the PDC separated from the British Darts Organisation in 1992–93. Phil Taylor emerged as champion for the fifth successive year, taking his overall tally to seven World Championships. He had now eclipsed both Eric Bristow, who won five World Darts titles, as well as Steve Davis and (at the time) Stephen Hendry, who were six times World Snooker champions – both targets of Taylor when he began accumulating world championships. The 1997 Red Band World Darts Championship was held between 29 December 1996 and 5 January 1997 at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex. It was the fourth World Championship organised by the World Darts Council, which had acrimoniously split from the British Darts Organisation in 1992–93. As a result of an ongoing legal battle, this would be the last time that the WDC name would be used – an out-of-court settlement (Tomlin Order) in June 1997 meant that the organisation had to change its name to the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Paul Lim, who famously hit a nine dart finish at the 1990 Embassy Championship appeared at his first WDC World Championship – he had only managed to qualify once for the Embassy since the split, losing a second round match to John Part in 1994. The Championship saw two tight semi-finals, the most memorable of which was the clash between mentor and protégé – Eric Bristow and Phil Taylor. Taylor emerged victorious 5–4 in sets to reach ...
