World Curling Federation
The World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990. The ICF was initially formed in 1966 as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth after the success of the Scotch Cup series of world championships held between Canada and Scotland. At the outset, it comprised the associations of Scotland, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States. In the wake of its formation, it sanctioned the World Curling Championships. Troels Harry (born 25 December 1990) is a Danish curler. He is a former world junior champion and current Danish champion. Career Harry has represented Denmark in four World Junior Championships. He played lead for Rasmus Stjerne in 2007 and 2008, finishing fourth and seventh, respectively. In 2009, Denmark, with Harry as lead under Stjerne, made the playoffs. They were defeated by Canada in the page 1 vs. 2 game, but rebounded with a win over the United States in the semifinal and defeated Canada in the final to win the gold medal. Harry played at the lead position under Mikkel Krause at the 2010 World Junior Curling Championships, but finished in eight place. In international play, Harry played lead for Stjerne at the 2010 European Curling Championships, and made the playoffs, where they defeated Germany and Switzerland to play Norway in the gold medal game. Johnny Frederiksen (born 31 July 1975 in Hvidovre) is a Danish curler from Copenhagen. He is the skip of the men's Danish national team. Frederiksen skipped Denmark at three World Junior Curling Championships (1994, 1995, 1996), two European Curling Championships (2006, 2007) and five World Curling Championships (2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008). Rasmus Stjerne Hansen (born 26 May 1988 in Hvidovre) is a retired Danish curler. He is a former world junior champion and current Danish champion. He curls out of the Hvidovre Curling Club. Career Stjerne has participated in five World Junior Championships. He played as third for Kenneth Jørgensen in 2004 and 2005, finishing outside of the playoffs in both years. He then skipped his own team at the World Juniors in 2006, 2007, and 2008, finishing fifth, fourth, and seventh, respectively. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. The men's 30 kilometre skiathlon cross-country skiing competition at the 2014 Sochi Olympics was held on 9 February 2014 at 14:00 MSK at the Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex. The event is split into half distance classic skiing and half distance skate skiing. Summary Dario Cologna from Switzerland won the gold medal. Marcus Hellner, the defending Olympic champion from Sweden, finished second, and Martin Johnsrud Sundby from Norway came third. For much of the free skiing half of the course about fifteen athletes were skiing together, and only close to the stadium, a group of four, Cologna, Hellner, Sundby and Maxim Vylegzhanin escaped. At the stadium, Cologna escaped and became the champion. Sundby finished third closely ahead of Vylegzhanin, and the Russian delegation filed a protest because he apparently changed the track in the finish area, impeding Vylegzhanin.
