Denis O'Riordan
Denis O'Riordan (born 1941) is an Irish former hurler who played as a centre-back and full back at senior level for the Cork county team. Career Born in Ballincollig, County Cork, He started his sporting career as a minor with Ballincollig and senior with Muskerry (divisional Club). He subsequently moved to the Glen Rovers in 1958. O'Riordan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the young age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team. He made his senior debut during the 1960 championship. O'Riordan immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one Munster medal in 1966 in Limerick. This cork team went on to win the 1966 All Ireland senior hurling championship on the second Sunday of September. Ballincollig GAA
Ballincollig GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in the town of Ballincollig, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with the Cork GAA board and plays in the Muskerry divisional competitions. In 2009, the club will participate in the Cork Senior Football Championship and the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship. History The GAA itself was founded in 1884 and the first Cork County Board was formed in 1886 with 21 teams from across the county. Ballincollig were in this initial 21, however it was not until 1887 that the first record of entry into the Championship from a team from Carrigrohane, with a late submission. With a lot of upheaval in the early days of the board, there were rival boards formed and in 1891 the club entered a team under the name of Ballincollig Gladstonians. Peter Doolan
Peter Doolan (born 1940 in Cork, Ireland) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club St Finbarr's and was a member at senior level of the Cork county team from 1962 until 1968. Playing career Club Doolan played his club hurling with the St Finbarr's club on the southside of Cork city and had much success. He won his first county senior championship winners' medal in 1965 following 'the Barr's' 6-8 to 2-5 defeat of UCC. The club later represented Cork in the provincial club series and een reached the final. A 3-12 to 2-3 defeat of Waterford's Mount Sion gave Doolan a Munster club winners' medal. After St Finbarr's lost the 1967 county final to Glen Rovers, the club recovered to reach the championship decider again the following year. John O'Halloran (born 1943 in Blackrock, County Cork, Ireland) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played hurling with his local clubs UCC and Blackrock and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1963 until 1969. Playing career Club Inter-county O'Halloran first came to prominence on the inter-county scene with Cork in 1963. He made his senior championship debut that year in the Munster semi-final against Tipperary. It was a bleak period for the Cork hurling team. After losing back-to-back Munster finals to Tipperary in 1964 and 1965, O'Halloran's Cork team returned to centre stage in 1966. That year 'the Rebels' avoided Tipperary in the provincial championship and qualified for a Munster showdown with Waterford. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup.
