	Democratic Party (Northern Cyprus) The Democratic Party (Turkish language, Turkish: ''Demokrat Parti'', DP) is a Conservatism, conservative List of political parties in Northern Cyprus, political party in Northern Cyprus. The leader of the party is Fikri Ataoğlu. Overview The Democratic Party was founded as a breakaway from the ruling right-wing National Unity Party (Northern Cyprus), National Unity Party (UBP) in 1992. The party merged in 1993 with the New Dawn Party (YDP), a party representing the interests of the Turkish settlers in Northern Cyprus, and consistently had high levels of support in the settler population until the 2003 Northern Cypriot parliamentary election, 2003 election. Rauf Denktaş had considerable influence on the party. At the 2005 Northern Cypriot parliamentary election, legislative elections for the Assembly of the Republic (Northern Cyprus), Assembly of the Republic on 20 January 2005, the party won 13.5% of the popular vote and 6 out of 50 seats. 	Democrat Party (Turkey, Current) The Democrat Party ( tr, Demokrat Parti), abbreviated to DP, is a liberal conservative Turkish political party, established by Ahmet Nusret Tuna in 1983 as the True Path Party ( tr, Doğru Yol Partisi or DYP). It succeeded the historical Democrat Party and the Justice Party, two parties with similar ideologies. Their sister party is the Good Party. There have been four DYP governments since its foundation; one led by Süleyman Demirel, the other three by Turkey's first and only female Prime Minister, Tansu Çiller. The party now has two seats in the Grand National Assembly, elected in the lists of the Good Party during the 2018 general election. On 5 May 2007, it was announced that DYP and the Motherland Party (ANAP) would merge to form the Democrat Party (''Demokrat Parti'').
