Democrats For Andorra
Democrats for Andorra ( ca, Demòcrates per Andorra, DA) is a centre-right, liberal-conservative political party currently in government in Andorra. The party was established on 22 February 2011 as the direct successor of the Reformist Coalition which ran in the 2009 election. Standing as main opposition party in the 2011 Andorran parliamentary election, the Democrats for Andorra won 20 of the General Council's 28 seats, the largest majority since the passing of the Andorran Constitution in 1993. The party was formed from a union of the Liberal Party of Andorra and New Centre, with elements of the Social Democratic Party, and are supported by Lauredian Union and Andorra for Change. Xavier Espot Zamora
Xavier Espot Zamora (born 30 October 1979) is an Andorran judge and politician. He is a former minister of justice and the current prime minister of Andorra since 16 May 2019. New Centre (Andorra)
The New Centre ( ca, Nou Centre, NC) was a Christian-democratic political party in Andorra. The party was founded in 2005 as a merger between the Andorran Democratic Centre and Century 21 political parties after they had been in an electoral alliance since 2001. 2019 Andorran Local Elections
The 2019 Andorran local elections were held on 15 December, to elect all councillors in the seven parishes of Andorra. Electoral system Voters elected the members of the municipal councils (''consells de comú'' in Catalan). The Electoral Law allows the municipal councils to choose their numbers of seats, which must be an even number between 10 and 16. All city council members were elected in single multi-member districts, consisting of the whole parish, using closed lists. Half of the seats were allocated to the party with the most votes. The other half of the seats were allocated using the Hare quota (including the winning party). With this system the winning party obtained an absolute majority. The ''cònsol major'' (mayor) and the ''cònsol menor'' (deputy mayor) will be elected indirectly by the municipal councillors after the election. 2019 Andorran Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Andorra on 7 April 2019, electing all 28 seats of the General Council. Although they remained the largest party, the Democrats for Andorra lost their parliamentary majority after losing four seats. The Social Democratic Party gained four seats, becoming the second-largest party. Background Democrats for Andorra secured an absolute majority in the 2015 election and Antoni Martí was re-elected Prime Minister of Andorra. In December 2017, Josep Pintat, together with the two members of the Lauredian Union and two members of Committed Citizens, left the Liberal group. Parliamentary elections were held in Andorra on 1 March 2015. Despite losing five seats, the Democrats for Andorra retained their majority in the General Council, winning 15 of the 28 seats. Antoni Martí
Antoni Martí Petit (; born 30 July 1963) is an Andorran architect and politician who served as the prime minister of Andorra from May 2011 to 16 May 2019, when he was elected on the ticket of the Democrats for Andorra. He was re-elected in the 2015 parliamentary election. Early life and education Martí was born in Escaldes-Engordany and studied at the École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Toulouse (Toulouse National School of Architecture), part of the Université fédérale de Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées. He is an architect by profession. The party was in favor of the country remaining a tax haven, and as such was against alterations to the tax system that would take that status away.
