Democratic Women's Association
The Democratic Women's Association was a political organization led by Tahira Mazhar Ali in 1950. The organization was founded with the intention of including worker's rights with women's right in Pakistan. It was the first leftist organization in Pakistan that represented women's rights. It was a grassroots movement beginning its work in small neighborhoods and involved mobilization of women and workers. Leadership Tahira Mazhar Ali was the founding General Secretary for the DWA. This allowed for coalitions that helped her further her agenda in the national politics of Pakistan. The political organization ran with the Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP). Tahira Mazhar Ali
Tahira Mazhar Ali (née ''Hayat'') (5 January 1924 – 23 March 2015) was a Pakistani women's rights campaigner and a political activist, and mentor to Benazir Bhutto. Her children include British Pakistani political activist Tariq Ali, Tauseef Hyat, and Australian journalist Mahir Ali. Early life She was born on 5 January 1924 in Lahore, British India to Sikandar Hayat Khan (1892 – 1942), a politician and former Chief Minister of Punjab, during the British Raj. She was the younger sister of Sardar Shaukat Hayat Khan (1915 – 1998) and Begum Mahmooda Salim Khan (1913 – 2007). Ali finished her basic education at Queen Mary School in Lahore. The Communist Party of Pakistan ( abbr. CPP; ur, کمیونسٹ پارٹی آف پاکستان) is a communist party in Pakistan. History Founding The CPP was founded in Calcutta, India, soon after the establishment of Pakistan on 6 March 1948. A decision was taken at the 2nd Congress of the Communist Party of India, which was held in Calcutta at that time, that a separate communist party ought to be created in the new state of Pakistan. It was thought that Pakistan, being a relatively small country (in comparison to India) and suffering from instability, was ripe for revolution. The delegates from Pakistan separated themselves and held a separate session where they constituted the CPP. Alys Faiz
Alys Faiz (Urdu:; September 1915 – 12 March 2003) was a Pakistani poet, writer, journalist, human rights activist, social worker and a teacher. Alys was born in London, but she later became a naturalized citizen of Pakistan. She was the wife of Faiz Ahmad Faiz and the mother of Salima Hashmi and Muneeza Hashmi. Early life Alys George was the daughter of a London bookseller, and she joined the Communist Party as a teenager. She and her sister, Christobel, were active in leftist circles in the 1930s and were close to Indian intellectuals based in London. Alys served as an unofficial secretary to Krishna Menon, the secretary of the Free Indian League. Christobel married ''Dr. M.D. Taseer'' and joined him in India where he was the principal of a college. A woman is an adult female human. Prior to adulthood, a female human is referred to as a girl (a female child or adolescent).
