In many team sports, defense (American spelling) or defence ( Commonwealth spelling) is the action of preventing an opponent from scoring. The term may also refer to the tactics involved in defense, or a sub-team whose primary responsibility is defense. WBCA Defensive Player Of The Year
The WBCA NCAA Division I Defensive Player of the Year is awarded by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to the best defensive player in NCAA Division I women's basketball. The winner is selected from among the winners of the defensive player of the year award for each individual conference. If any individual conference does not have such an award, the conference can nominate a player to be considered for the countrywide award. The award has been given annually since 2007 and is chosen by a WBCA selection committee. Pac-12 Conference Men's Basketball Defensive Player Of The Year
The Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year is an annual college basketball award presented to the top defensive player in men's basketball in the Pac-12 Conference. The winner is selected by conference coaches, who are not allowed to vote for players on their own team. The award began in 1984, when the conference consisted of 10 teams and was known as the Pacific-10. It stopped being issued starting in 1988 but was restarted in 2008. The conference added two teams and became the Pac-12 in 2011. Jorge Gutiérrez of California (2012) and Evan Mobley of USC (2021) are the only players to also win the Pac-12 Player of the Year in the same season. NABC Defensive Player Of The Year
The NABC Defensive Player of the Year is an award given annually by the National Association of Basketball Coaches to recognize the top defensive player in United States college basketball. The award has been given since 1987 and was previously known as the Henry Iba Corinthian Award, named after Hall of Fame coach Henry Iba, who coached at Oklahoma State University from 1934 to 1970. Duke has dominated the award with six recipients who have won a total of nine awards.
