Deceiver (DIIV Album)
''Deceiver'' is the third studio album by American indie rock band DIIV. It was released on October 4, 2019 by Captured Tracks. Produced primarily by the band themselves along with producer Sonny Diperri ( My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails), the album was recorded in Los Angeles in March 2019. This album is the follow-up to 2016's critically acclaimed '' Is the Is Are''. It is also DIIV's first project since frontman Zachary Cole Smith checked himself into "long-haul inpatient treatment" for substance abuse in 2017. Smith's treatment and recovery period are said to have played an important part in the making of ''Deceiver''. Per a statement, ''Deceiver'' is described as "the soundtrack to personal resurrection under the heavy weight of metallic catharsis". Upon release, ''Deceiver'' reached number 177 on the US Billboard 200 and received critical acclaim as a drastic departure from DIIV's earlier work. Protomartyr (band)
Protomartyr is an American rock band formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 2010. The band consists of Joe Casey (vocals), Greg Ahee (guitar), Alex Leonard (drums), and Scott Davidson (bass). In 2020, Kelley Deal joined the band in a touring capacity, providing additional keyboards, guitar and backing vocals. Dream pop (also typeset as dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Common characteristics include breathy vocals, dense productions, and effects such as reverb, echo, tremolo, and chorus. It often overlaps with the related genre of shoegaze, and the two genre terms have at times been used interchangeably. Deafheaven is an American post-metal band formed in 2010. Originally based in San Francisco, the group began as a two-piece with singer George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy, who recorded and self-released a demo album together. Following its release, Deafheaven recruited three new members and began to tour. Before the end of 2010, the band signed to Deathwish Inc. and later released their debut album ''Roads to Judah,'' in April 2011.
