Debra Davis
Debra M. Davis (born October 11, 1959) is an American politician who represents district 28 in the Maryland House of Delegates. Background Davis was born in Cheverly, Maryland, on October 11, 1959, where she attended Frederick Douglass High School in Croom, Maryland. In 1981, she graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology. After attending the University of Baltimore School of Law where she earned a Juris Doctor, she was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1995 and to the District of Columbia Bar in 1996. In 2010, Davis was elected to the Charles County Board of Commissioners, representing the Charles County District 2. During her two terms as commissioner, she gained the reputation as a maverick, often voting against the majority on issues large and small. Maryland's Legislative District 28 is one of 47 districts in the state for the Maryland General Assembly. It covers part of Charles County. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 147,401, of whom 111,719 (75.8%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 50,992 (34.6%) White, 73,618 (49.9%) African American, 1,072 (0.7%) Native American, 5,304 (3.6%) Asian, 69 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 4,522 (3.1%) from some other race, and 11,747 (8.0%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10,006 (6.8%) of the population. The District of Columbia Bar (DCB) is the mandatory bar association of the District of Columbia. It administers the admissions, licensing, and discipline functions for lawyers licensed to practice in the District. It is to be distinguished from the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, which is a voluntary bar. ''The Herald-Mail'' is a newspaper serving the cities of Hagerstown, Maryland, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Martinsburg, West Virginia and the surrounding counties. History ''The Morning Herald'' was the first daily newspaper in Hagerstown, beginning publication in 1873. ''The Mail'' began in 1828 but was not a daily paper, ''The Daily Mail'', until 1890. Larry Hogan
Lawrence Joseph Hogan Jr. (born May 25, 1956) is an American politician and businessman serving as the 62nd governor of Maryland since 2015. A moderate member of the Republican Party, he was secretary of appointments under Maryland governor Bob Ehrlich from 2003 to 2007. Hogan chaired the National Governors Association from 2019 to 2020. Hogan ran unsuccessful campaigns for Maryland's 5th congressional district in 1981 and 1992, the latter of which was incumbent Steny Hoyer's closest race. Suitland-Silver Hill was a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States, for the 2000 U.S. Census. The census area included the separate unincorporated communities of Silver Hill and Suitland, and other smaller communities. The population was 33,515 at the 2000 census. For the 2010 census, the CDP was separated into Silver Hill and Suitland. The community was named for a 19th-century landowner, State Senator Samuel Taylor Suit and his estate. The Suitland-Silver Hill area was known as having one of the highest crime rates in Prince George's County. Branch Avenue is an island-platformed Washington Metro station in Suitland, Maryland, United States. The station was opened on January 13, 2001, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The station presently serves as the southeastern terminus for the Green Line, with the Branch Avenue rail yard lying just beyond this station. The station is located near the intersection of Auth Road and Old Soper Road. The station has received a lot of criticism for its confusing layout, difficult to find parking and overall poor design. Southern Maryland Rapid Transit, abbreviated as SMRT, is a proposed mass transit line along the Maryland Route 5 and U.S. Route 301 highway corridors in between Washington, D.C., and Waldorf, Maryland. States Newsroom is a U.S. tax-exempt organization that serves as an umbrella organization for state-focused news outlets with progressive editorial outlooks. Launched in 2019, it began as a sponsored project of the Hopewell Fund, a left-leaning nonprofit that does not disclose its donors.
