''Death of a Cheerleader'' is an album by Pom Pom Squad. Background Musically, Berrin pulled inspiration from riot grrrl bands, 60's girl groups, Billie Holiday, and Motown. The title of "Second That" is a nod to the Smokey Robinson hit, " I Second That Emotion." Berrin cited feelings of isolation as a person of color in the music industry as an inspiration for ''Death of a Cheerleader'', stating that "I wanted to define myself in different terms than other people defined me." Berrin also took inspiration from the realization that she is queer, describing many of the songs as having been inspired by someone who taught her "a lot about my queerness and the space that it occupies inside of me." Pom Pom Squad
Pom Pom Squad is an American indie rock/grunge band from Brooklyn, New York. It is the solo project of frontwoman Mia Berrin, and features permanent members Shelby Keller (drums) and Alex Mercuri (guitar). History Mia Berrin was raised in Orlando, Florida and began Pom Pom Squad when she was eighteen years old. She soon moved to New York City to attend New York University,where she performed solo under the name Pom Pom Squad and with an early iteration of the band, with whom she released the EP ''Hate It Here'' in 2017. Berrin is of African-American and Puerto Rican descent and identifies as queer. She is outspoken about the influence her identity has on her music. Berrin later met bassist Mari Alé Figeman and drummer Shelby Keller at club show and reformed the band. Dorcas Cochran (c. 1903 – July 6, 1991) was an American lyricist and screenwriter. She is also referenced by her married name, Dorcas Cochran Jewell. Biography As a lyricist, her best-known song was "Again," which had multiple recorded versions on the US charts. She also wrote the lyrics for two songs which were major hits for Tony Martin: " I Get Ideas" and "Here." Tommy James (born Thomas Gregory Jackson; April 29, 1947), also known as Tommy Tadger, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, widely known as frontman of the 1960s rock band Tommy James and the Shondells, who were known for their hits including "Mony Mony" and "Crimson and Clover".
