Bev Craig is a Labour councillor in Burnage, Manchester, England, and Leader of Manchester City Council. Craig was elected Leader of Manchester City Council by the ruling Labour group of councillors in October 2021, and officially succeeded Richard Leese at a full meeting of the council on his retirement on 1 December 2021. Biography Craig is originally from Belfast and is the city council’s first female and LGBT leader. 2019 Manchester City Council Election
Elections to Manchester City Council were held on 2 May 2019, as part of the 2019 United Kingdom local elections. In 2018 Labour retained its majority of the council with 94 seats to the Liberal Democrats making up the opposition of 2, led by former MP John Leech. 2018 Manchester City Council Election
Elections to Manchester City Council were held on 3 May 2018, as part of the 2018 United Kingdom local elections. Although the council is normally elected in thirds, all 96 council seats were up for election due to boundary changes. Labour retained its near-complete dominance of the council. The sole change was that the Liberal Democrats gained a second seat in Didsbury West. Background and Campaign From 2014 to 2016, Labour were the only party represented on the council. Manchester Victoria Station
Manchester Victoria station in Manchester, England is a combined mainline railway station and Metrolink tram stop. Situated to the north of the city centre on Hunts Bank, close to Manchester Cathedral, it adjoins Manchester Arena which was constructed on part of the former station site in the 1990s. City Centre ward was a ward of the local authority Manchester City Council from 2004 to 2018. The population of the city centre grew significantly in the 21st century. Graham Stringer
Graham Eric Stringer (born 17 February 1950) is a British Labour Party politician serving as MP for Blackley and Broughton since 1997. Before entering Parliament, he served as leader of Manchester City Council from 1984 to 1996, and chair of Manchester Airport plc from 1996 to 1997. Stringer is a prominent Eurosceptic. Early life Stringer attended Christ Church Primary School in Beswick, Manchester, and Openshaw Technical High School for Boys in Openshaw, Manchester. After graduating in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield in 1971, Stringer worked as an analytical chemist in the plastics industry. Stringer became a local councillor in Manchester in 1979, and was Manchester City Council leader from 1984 to 1996. He was also chair of Manchester Airport from 1996 to 1997. Blackley and Broughton ( and ) is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by Graham Stringer. Lucy Maria Powell (born 10 October 1974) is a British politician serving as Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport since 2021. A member of the Labour and Co-operative parties, she has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Manchester Central since 2012.
