Dean Williams (born 5 January 1972) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He made nearly 100 appearances in the Football League playing for Birmingham City, Brentford and Doncaster Rovers, and represented Welsh Premier League clubs TNS in the UEFA Cup and Aberystwyth Town in the Intertoto Cup. Playing career Williams, born in Tamworth, Staffordshire, signed for Birmingham City on schoolboy forms at 14. When he left school in 1988, he was accepted as a trainee under the Youth Training Scheme (YTS) system and turned professional in 1990. He made his first-team debut aged 17 at the end of the 1989–90 season, in a 2–1 defeat at home to Notts County. A spell on loan in Republic of Ireland with Cobh Ramblers followed in 1991. Kevin Charles Dearden (born 8 March 1970) is an English former professional footballer who made more than 400 appearances in the Football League, playing as a goalkeeper for many clubs. He later became a coach, and is currently goalkeeper coach at his home-town club Luton Town. Playing career He began his career as an apprentice with Tottenham Hotspur, turning professional on 5 August 1988. In need of first-team experience, he joined Cambridge United on loan on 9 March 1989, making his league debut two days later in a 3–0 away win against Exeter City. Alan John Miller (29 March 1970 – 3 June 2021) was an English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He notably played in the Premier League for Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers, however his 108 league appearances for West Bromwich Albion over two spells was the club he appeared the most for. During his playing career he also played in the Football League for Plymouth Argyle, Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town, Grimsby Town, Bristol City and Coventry City, as well as a spell in the Scottish Premier League with St Johnstone. The 1989–90 season was the 110th season of competitive football in England. Overview English clubs were still banned from competing in European competitions following the Heysel Stadium disaster. The season marked the beginning of the regular trend for clubs to leave their homes of many years and head for purpose built new stadia, following the bold move to Glanford Park by Scunthorpe United in 1988.
