DeRuyter is a village located in the Town of DeRuyter in Madison County, New York, United States. The population was 558 at the 2010 census. The village and town are named after Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter, a famous admiral in the Dutch navy. The Village of DeRuyter is located in the southwestern corner of the town of DeRuyter on Route 13. History The village of DeRuyter, incorporated in 1833, was originally called Tromptown. Jan Lincklaen, an agent for the Holland Land Co., whose territory included Cazenovia and areas south, named it. DeRuyter is a town in Madison County, New York, United States. The population was 1,589 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter, a famous admiral in the Dutch navy. The name de Ruyter (de Ruijter) means "the Rider". The Town of DeRuyter has a village in it also called DeRuyter. The town is in the southwestern corner of the county. An early settler was Elijah Cornell, father of Ezra Cornell, founder of Western Union and Cornell University. History DeRuyter was one of five towns formed before Madison County was created. DeRuyter Central School is a public school district located in southwestern Madison County, New York. The school houses grades UPK-12. The current school enrollment is 427 students from the area. The DeRuyter Central School district includes students from DeRuyter, Sheds, Cuyler (in Cortland County), and Lincklaen (in Chenango County). DeRuyter Reservoir
DeRuyter Reservoir (also known as Tioughnioga Lake) is a man-made lake located north of DeRuyter, New York#Communities and locations in the Town of DeRuyter, Puckerville, New York. Fish species present in the lake include smallmouth bass, American pickerel, pickerel, yellow perch, rock bass, black bullhead, common sunfish, and walleye. There is access by fee on the south shore at the general store. The reservoir was constructed from 1861 to 1863 to supply water for the Erie Canal but by the following year had proved to hold insufficient water. The dam has been worked on at least twice. History In 1856, an estimate for a reservoir on Limestone Creek (Chittenango Creek tributary), Limestone Creek put the cost at $118,367.55. Ruyter Lara Johanna Pakon Suys (born November 5, 1968) is the lead guitar player of the band Nashville Pussy, and lead singer Blaine Cartwright's wife. Early life Suys spent her youth in Vancouver, in a musical family, particularly fans of rock'n'roll in the vein of Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, and Frank Zappa. Beginning with piano at age three, she picked up the guitar at about 8–9 years, referring to the repertoire of Simon & Garfunkel in particular. At the end of primary school, she got her first guitar from her parents. In her teens she appreciated bands like Motörhead, Slayer, Metallica, Plasmatics, KISS, Aerosmith and Ted Nugent. Suys' main female influences include Nancy Wilson of Heart and Wendy O. Williams. Engel Michielszoon de Ruyter (2 May 1649 – 27 February 1683) was a Dutch vice-admiral. Biography

De Ruyter was born in Vlissingen, the son of lieutenant admiral Michiel de Ruyter and his second wife Cornelia Engels. He began his naval service on board his father's ship on his expeditions in 1664 and 1665. Captains often had their sons serve with them, so that they learned their trade while their wages were paid by the Admiralty. In 1666, during the Second Anglo-Dutch War, Engel was a midshipman in the Admiralty of Amsterdam. He served in the St. James's Day Battle on board Willem van der Zaen's ship, the ''Gouda''. In 1667 he rose to lieutenant-commander. On 1 April 1668 he became captain-extraordinary and in 1669 a captain in ordinary, a permanent post. Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter (; 24 March 1607 – 29 April 1676) was a Dutch admiral. Widely celebrated and regarded as one of the most skilled admirals in history, De Ruyter is arguably most famous for his achievements with the Dutch Navy during the Anglo-Dutch Wars. He fought the English and French forces and scored several critical victories, with the Raid on the Medway being the most famous among them. Stephnie de Ruyter is a former leader of the New Zealand Democratic Party, a small centre-left New Zealand political party based upon Social Credit economics. The Democrats, who, in June 2018, returned to campaigning under the name Social Credit are currently outside Parliament.
