Matt DeCanio
Matt DeCanio (born April 5, 1977) is an American ex-professional racing cyclist. DeCanio is an outspoken critic of doping in the sport, and founded thStolen Undergroundanti-doping movement after voluntarily confessing to performance-enhancing drug use and serving a two-year ban for doping. DeCanio was sued in 2008 by convicted doper Kayle Leogrande for defamation, after publishing a recorded telephone call between himself and Suzanne Sonye, although the suit was thrown out by a judge in the Superior Court of California. In 2010 he was making a comeback to cycling, racing for French amateur team Olympique Cycliste Val d’Oise. In 2022 DeCanio wrote an autobiography detailing his entire racing career and the fallout of him calling out Lance Armstrong and others for doping, long before Armstrong admitted it. Stephen DeCanio
Stephen DeCanio (born 1942) is a Professor of economics, emeritus, at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His current research deals with the impact of artificial intelligence on society, the economy, and culture. His recent research has also addressed the consequences of computational limits for economics and social theory more generally. He has published books and articles in the fields of global environmental protection and energy economics, the theory of the firm, and economic history. He studied mathematics as an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley and received his Ph.D in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972. After teaching at Tufts University (1970–72) and Yale University (1972-78), he joined the faculty at UCSB in 1978.
