Icelandic Language
Icelandic (; is, íslenska, link=no ) is a North Germanic language spoken by about 314,000 people, the vast majority of whom live in Iceland, where it is the national language. Due to being a West Scandinavian language, it is most closely related to Faroese, western Norwegian dialects, and the extinct language, Norn. The language is more conservative than most other Germanic languages. While most of them have greatly reduced levels of inflection (particularly noun declension), Icelandic retains a four- case synthetic grammar (comparable to German, though considerably more conservative and synthetic) and is distinguished by a wide assortment of irregular declensions. Icelandic vocabulary is also deeply conservative, with the country's language regulator maintaining an active policy of coining terms based on older Icelandic words rather than directly taking in loanwords from other languages. Daði Freyr Pétursson (; born 30 June 1992), known professionally as Daði Freyr or simply Daði, is an Icelandic musician living in Berlin, Germany. As the frontman of Daði & Gagnamagnið ( ), he was due to represent Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Think About Things", before the event was cancelled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, he represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song " 10 Years", finishing in fourth place. Early life Daði was born in Reykjavík but grew up in Denmark until the age of nine, then his family moved to Iceland and settled in the Southern Region, first in Laugaland and later in Ásahreppur. Daði Guðmundsson
Daði Guðmundsson ( – 1563) or Daði of Snóksdal was a farmer and magistrate in 16th century Iceland. He lived in the town of Snóksdalur in Dalasýsla county and played an important role in the Battle of Sauðafell and the Lutheran Reformation in Iceland. Personal life Daði was a son of the farmer Guðmund Finnsson and Þórunn Daðadóttir, who was related by marriage to Torfi Arason, the king's representative ('' hirðstjóri'') for the north and west of Iceland. Daði was a prosperous landholder with successful fishing operations based on the Hvammsfjörður. Knut Gjerset, in his ''History of Iceland'', describes Daði as a "rich and influential man of shady morals." In 1525, Daði married Guðrún, daughter of Einar Ölduhryggjarskáld, a poet and priest. Daði Lár Jónsson
Daði Lár Jónsson (born 23 October 1996) is an Icelandic basketball player and former sprinter. During his basketball career, he won the Icelandic Basketball Cup twice as a member of Stjarnan and once with Valur. Basketball career Daði came up through the junior programs of Stjarnan. In January 2016, he moved over to Keflavík, where his father had starred. He left the club in July 2018. In August 2018, he signed with Haukar. For the 2018–19 season, he averaged 8.4 points and team leading 3.8 assists. Personal life Daði's father, Jón Kr. Gíslason, played 158 games for the Icelandic national team between 1982 and 1995 and coached the national team from 1995 to 1999. Jón Daði Böðvarsson (transliterated as Jon Dadi Bodvarsson; born 25 May 1992) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays as a right winger or a striker for League One club Bolton Wanderers and the Iceland national team. Jón Daði is the grandson of one Iceland's premier poets, Þorsteinn frá Hamri. Club career Jón Daði began his senior career during the 2009 season in the Icelandic second tier with Selfoss, scoring 20 as their side were promoted to the Icelandic top flight.
