Dawood Industries Cricket Team
Dawood Industries were a Pakistani first-class cricket team sponsored by the Dawood group of companies. They had one season of first-class cricket in the Patron's Trophy in 1975–76. Dawood Industries, which included the Test players Zaheer Abbas (who captained the team) and Imran Khan, won their matches in the first three rounds, then lost by an innings to Pakistan International Airlines in the semi-final. Their four matches took place between 12 October and 3 November 1975. Fourteen players appeared for Dawood Industries in the four matches. The highest scorer was Zaheer Abbas, with 359 runs at an average of 51.28. The leading bowler was Mohammad Sabir, who took 25 wickets at 20.32. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Patron's Trophy
The Patron's Trophy was a cricket competition that was held in Pakistan between 1960–61 and 2018–19 mainly among teams representing the government and semi-government departments, corporations, commercial organisations, business houses, banks, airlines, and educational institutions. Matches in the competition were afforded first-class status in most seasons until 2006–07, when the domestic first-class competition was reorganised and merged into the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). From then on, the Patron's Trophy was a Grade II competition until a major reorganisation of domestic cricket in 2019 brought an end to the competition. Test cricket is a form of first-class cricket played at international level between teams representing full member countries of the International Cricket Council (ICC). A match consists of four innings (two per team) and is scheduled to last for up to five days. In the past, some Test matches had no time limit and were called Timeless Tests. Syed Zaheer Abbas Kirmani PP, (in Punjabi and Urdu: سید ظہیر عباس کرمانی; born 24 July 1947), popularly known as Zaheer Abbas, is a former Pakistani cricketer. He is among few professional cricketers who used to wear spectacles. In 1982/1983, he became the first batsman to score three consecutive centuries in one-day internationals. Sometimes known as 'the Asian Bradman', Zaheer Abbas is regarded as one of the finest batsmen in the history of cricket. In August 2020, he was inducted to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cricket team was a first-class cricket side sponsored by the national flag carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and was based in Karachi before its disestablishment in 2020. Mohammad Sabir (cricketer, Born 1943)
Mohammad Sabir (1 September 1943 – 17 June 1998) was a Pakistani cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1962 to 1986. Mohammad Sabir was a leg-spin and googly bowler. He achieved his best innings and match figures in his first season when he took 7 for 61, and 13 for 99 in the match, for Rawalpindi against Karachi B in a semi-final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 1962–63. Other notable performances included 11 for 80 (7 for 62 and 4 for 18) against Bahawalpur in 1971–72, and 10 for 68 (4 for 47 and 6 for 21) for Dawood Industries against Lahore A in 1975–76.
