Dawa (Tibetan Phrase)
In Tibetan culture and Sherpa culture, Dawa (; also written ) is a word meaning "moon" or " month". It is often used as a name for children born on a Monday. The name can be given to either a girl or a boy. Other people in the Himalayan region such as the Ladakhis, the Sikkimese of Northeast India and the Bhutanese people also use the name Dawa in the same sense as the Tibetans. Tibetan Culture
Tibet developed a distinct culture due to its geographic and climatic conditions. While influenced by neighboring cultures from China, India, and Nepal, the Himalayan region's remoteness and inaccessibility have preserved distinct local influences, and stimulated the development of its distinct culture. Tibetan Buddhism has exerted a particularly strong influence on Tibetan culture since its introduction in the seventh century. Dawa Yangzum Sherpa
Dawa Yangzum Sherpa also known as Dawa Yangzum is a Nepali born mountain climber and the first woman to become an international mountain guide from Nepal. Life Dawa Yangzum started her professional mountain climbing in 2009 with Yala Peak marking her first summit. She has climbed five of the fourteen 8000ers so far. She became one of the iconic Nepali mountain climbers in the history after climbing the Mount Everest in 2012. In 2017, she received a certification from the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association and qualified to become an international mountain guide in the same year. In March 2019, she signed a professional agreement with a US outdoor recreation product company, making her one of the few professional Nepali mountaineers to be paid as an athlete by a major western company. Alan Dawa Dolma
Alan Dawa Dolma (; ; born on 25 July 1987), known professionally as Alan, is a Tibetan singer and she is known for her signature "Tibetan wail", often incorporated into her music. She is a graduate of the PLA Academy of Art, majoring in vocal music and erhu, which she has played since childhood. During her time in college, Alan released a cover album titled '' Shengsheng Zui Rulan'' (2005). In early 2006, she auditioned for Japanese label Avex Trax and was subsequently signed as their first Tibetan artist. In late 2007, Alan moved to Tokyo and made her debut with "Ashita e no Sanka". Tashi Dawa (; ; born February 1959) or Zhaxi Dawa, is a Chinese novelist of half-Tibetan half-Han ethnic background. He is a distinguished Tibetan writer in China, and one of the most controversial figures associated with modern Tibet. Kazi Dawa Samdup
Lama Kazi Dawa Samdup (17 June 1868 – 22 March 1922) is now best known as one of the first translators of important works of Tibetan Buddhism into the English language and a pioneer central to the transmission of Buddhism in the West. From 1910 he also played a significant role in relations between British India and Tibet. Biography Kazi Dawa Samdup was born in Sikkim on 17 June 1868. Dawa Gyaltsen () was a Dzogchen master who lived in the 8th century in the area of Zhangzhung. Dawa Sangpo
According to Indian and Tibetan legend, King Suchandra (Tib. ''Dawa Sangpo'') of the northeastern Indian Kingdom of Shambhala was the one who requested teaching from the Buddha that would allow him to practice the dharma without renouncing his worldly enjoyments and responsibilities. Sherpa People
The Sherpa are one of the Tibetan ethnic groups native to the most mountainous regions of Nepal, Tingri County in the Tibet Autonomous Region and the Himalayas. The term ''sherpa'' or ''sherwa'' derives from the Sherpa language words ("east") and ("people"), which refer to their geographical origin of eastern Tibet.
