Ananias Davisson
Ananias Davisson (February 2, 1780 – October 21, 1857) was a singing school teacher, printer and compiler of shape note tunebooks. He is best known for his 1816 compilation ''Kentucky Harmony'', which is the first Southern shape-note tunebook. According to musicologist George Pullen Jackson, Davisson's compilations are "pioneer repositories of a sort of song that the rural South really liked." Life and career Davisson was born February 2, 1780, in Shenandoah County, Virginia. His wife was named Ann (surname unknown); they had no children. In 1804 he bought land in Rockingham County, supplementing his income as a farmer by conducting singing classes in the Shenandoah Valley. He established a printing shop in Harrisonburg in 1816, and in that year published the Kentucky Harmony, the first Southern shape note tunebook. Clinton Davisson
Clinton Joseph Davisson (October 22, 1881 – February 1, 1958) was an American physicist who won the 1937 Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery of electron diffraction in the famous Davisson–Germer experiment. Davisson shared the Nobel Prize with George Paget Thomson, who independently discovered electron diffraction at about the same time as Davisson. Early life and education Davisson was born in Bloomington, Illinois. He graduated from Bloomington High School (Bloomington, Illinois), Bloomington High School in 1902, and entered the University of Chicago on scholarship. Upon the recommendation of Robert A. Millikan, in 1905 Davisson was hired by Princeton University as Instructor of Physics. He completed the requirements for his B.S. degree from Chicago in 1908, mainly by working in the summers. Muriel Davisson
Muriel Davisson is an American geneticist who developed the Down syndrome mouse model Ts65Dn. In 1959 she graduated from Pemetic High School in Southwest Harbor, Maine. She holds Ph. D. from Penn State University (1969). She was director of Genetic Resource Science at Jackson Laboratory. Her work concentrates on developing mouse models of human genetic disorders including Down syndrome. She is now semiretired from Jackson Laboratory. Richard Davisson
Richard Joseph "Dick" Davisson (December 29, 1922 – June 15, 2004) was an American physicist. Davisson was the son of Clinton Davisson, a Nobel laureate, and his wife Charlotte. Davisson's maternal uncle, Sir Owen Richardson, was also a Nobel laureate. During World War II he worked on the Manhattan Project as part of the Special Engineer Detachment. At Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, he met Professor Robert Williams (scientist), Robert Williams, who later recruited him to teach at the University of Washington. As a graduate student at Cornell after World War II, Davisson built a cosmic ray machine that would do everything but write a grad student's thesis. He acquired a huge magnet from Navy surplus, built a cloud chamber and a set of Geiger counters and designed a universal-focus camera to record cosmic ray events. Walther Davisson
Walther Davisson (15 December 1885 – 18 July 1973) was a German violinist and conductor. Background Davisson was born in Frankfurt am Main. He studied in Frankfurt at the Hoch Conservatory from 1900 to 1906 with Johann Naret-Koning and Adolf Rebner, in whose string quartet he played second violin from 1906 to 1913. He also taught violin in Frankfurt until 1918. After several years as conductor of the orchestra and deputy to Director Max Pauer at the Leipzig Conservatory, Davisson himself became director of that institution in 1932. From 1950 to 1954, he served as artistic director of the combined Musikhochschule and Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt. Additional Work Davisson was also active as an editor. Davisson (crater)
Davisson is a lunar impact crater that is located on the far side of the Moon from the Earth. This crater lies across the eastern rim of the huge walled plain Leibnitz, and the rim and outer rampart intrudes into the interior floor of Leibnitz. To the east-northeast of Davisson is the walled plain Oppenheimer, a formation only somewhat smaller than Leibnitz. The rim of Davisson has been somewhat eroded from impacts, but it retains some detail from its original formation. Particularly along the western face, the interior wall displays some terraces. The rim is more worn along the northeastern face, and the rim is more irregular to the north and south. The interior floor is relatively level and featureless, with a low central peak offset slightly to the southwest of the crater midpoint.
