David Turner (18 March 1927 – 11 December 1990) was a British playwright. Turner was born in Birmingham and came from a working-class background. He studied French at University of Birmingham, Birmingham University and later worked as a school teacher in that city. He is best remembered for his stage play ''Semi-Detached (play), Semi-Detached'', first performed during 1962, which reached Broadway theatre, Broadway and was adapted for the film ''All the Way Up (film), All the Way Up'' (1970). He prepared modern versions of classic plays including John Gay's ''The Beggar's Opera'', a version seen in London in 1968, and ''The Miser'' by Molière, which was performed at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Birmingham Rep in 1973. David John Turner (born 7 September 1943) is an English former professional footballer who made more than 300 appearances in the Football League playing as a wing half or midfielder for Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Blackburn Rovers. Life and career Turner was born in Retford, Nottinghamshire. He played schools football for his county, and joined Newcastle United straight from school. He turned professional in 1960, and was a member of the team that won the 1961–62 FA Youth Cup. He made his first-team debut on the last day of the 1961–62 Football League season, a 3–0 defeat at home to Leeds United in the Second Division, and appeared twice more before moving on to Brighton & Hove Albion in December 1963 for a £4,500 fee. David Turner (born 1944 in Nottingham, England) is a Canadian university professor and former politician. He was the mayor of Victoria, British Columbia, from 1991 to 1993. He is currently a professor at the University of Victoria. Turner earned a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. He moved to Canada in 1971. He was elected mayor of Victoria in 1991, and held the position to 1993. He has run as a New Democratic Party candidate for the federal riding of Victoria in the 2000 and 2004 elections, but in both elections the riding was won by Liberal candidate David Anderson. David Roy Turner (born 5 February 1949) is a former English first-class cricketer who played for Hampshire County Cricket Club. He played 426 games between 1966 and 1989, making 19,005 runs at a batting average of 30.55 with 28 hundreds. David Turner played for Hampshire in 24 consecutive seasons, which, with the impact of the First World War on certain players, is the longest unbroken run in their history. He is also the only Hampshire cricketer to have been in sides that won the Championship, Sunday League and a Lord's Final. Hampshire were not the only county who sought to sign the promising young left-hander but he came to the county, making his first-class debut in August 1966, when just 17.
