David Smith is a Republican member of the Florida Legislature representing the state's 38th House district. Political career Smith defeated Democrat Lee Mangold in the November 6, 2018 general election, winning 51.27% of the vote. Military career David Smith graduated from Texas A&M University in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in Business Management and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program. After attending The Basic School at MCB Quantico, Virginia, he proceeded to NAS Pensacola and later NAS Whiting Field, Florida, for flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1984. The Bell UH-1N Twin Huey is a medium military helicopter designed and produced by the American aerospace manufacturer Bell Helicopter. It is a member of the extensive Huey family, the initial version was the CUH-1N Twin Huey (later CH-135 Twin Huey), which was first ordered by the Canadian Forces in 1968. Barely a year following initial discussions, the UH-1N performed its maiden flight in April 1969. Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 (HMLAT-303), is a United States Marine Corps helicopter training squadron stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (VMM-163) is a United States Marine Corps helicopter squadron consisting of MV-22 Osprey transport tiltrotors. The squadron, known as "Evil Eyes", is based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California and falls under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 16 (MAG-16) and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (3rd MAW). The Squadron's original nickname, the "Ridge Runners", was bestowed as a result of typhoon rescue and relief operations in the mountainous terrain surrounding Hanshin, Japan following Typhoon Tess in September 1953.
