David Pugh (actor)
David Pugh (died 2022) was a British actor, probably best known for playing opposite Rosamund Greenwood and Roy Evans (actor), Roy Evans in an acclaimed early film by director Tony Scott, ''Loving Memory'', which was shown at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival. Other film roles included Daft Jamie in ''Burke & Hare (1972 film), Burke & Hare'' (1971), one of the leads in the 1972 sex comedy ''The Love Pill'', and a creditor in Christine Edzard's 1987 Dickens adaptation, ''Little Dorrit (1987 film), Little Dorrit''. Rosamund Mary Greenwood (12 June 1907 – 15 July 1997) was a British actress who was active on screen from 1935 until 1990. Biography After training at London's Central School, she was on stage from the late 1920s. Her theatre work included starring in the original West End and Broadway productions of Thornton Wilder's ''The Matchmaker'' in 1954-1957. In a career stretching 60 years, Greenwood's screen work included ''The Prince and the Showgirl'', ''Night of the Demon'', '' Upstairs, Downstairs'', '' All Creatures Great and Small'', ''Angels'', ''Crown Court'' and ''A Perfect Spy'', and ''Hallelujah!'' in 1983. ''Pathfinders'' (1972–1973) is an ITV drama set in the Second World War, telling the story of the fictitious Royal Air Force 192 Pathfinder squadron. The Pathfinders were specialised RAF squadrons that marked targets for the RAF's heavy bombers. The series used radio controlled Avro Lancaster models for the flying scenes. Equity (British Trade Union)
Equity, formerly officially titled the British Actors' Equity Association, is the trade union for the performing arts and entertainment industries. Formed by a group of West End performers in 1930, the union grew to include performers and stage management nationwide, as well as gaining recognition in audio, film, and television. Equity incorporated the Variety Artistes' Federation in 1967, and now represents most professionals whose work is presented on stage or screen. As of 2021, it had just over 46,000 members, including actors, singers, dancers, variety artistes and other performers, models, theatre directors, choreographers, designers, and stage management. Equity requires its members to have unique professional names to avoid confusion with other artists and entertainers. Plot summary In 1690, the English county of Suffolk is wracked with a fear of witches. Many girls and women are accused of casting spells and causing mayhem. One such accused woman is a Mrs. Mothersole, a wealthier noblewoman who has property of her own. ''The Stalls of Barchester'' is the first of the BBC's ''A Ghost Story for Christmas'' strand, first broadcast on BBC 1 at 11.00pm on 24 December 1971. Based on the story " The Stalls of Barchester Cathedral" from the 1911 collection ''More Ghost Stories'' by M. R. James, it was adapted, produced and directed by Lawrence Gordon Clark. Plot Whilst cataloguing the library of Barchester Cathedral in 1932, a scholar, Dr Black (Clive Swift) is shown a box containing a 50-year-old diary (sealed under the order of the Dean) detailing the events leading up to the mysterious death of Dr Haynes (Robert Hardy), a former Archdeacon of the cathedral. ''A Ghost Story for Christmas'' is a strand of annual British short television films originally broadcast on BBC One between 1971 and 1978, and revived sporadically by the BBC since 2005. With one exception, the original instalments were directed by Lawrence Gordon Clark and the films were all shot on 16 mm colour film. The remit behind the series was to provide a television adaptation of a classic ghost story, in line with the oral tradition of telling supernatural tales at Christmas. Each instalment is a separate adaptation of a short story, ranges between 30 and 50 minutes in duration, and features well-known British actors such as Clive Swift, Robert Hardy, Peter Vaughan, Edward Petherbridge and Denholm Elliott. ''Out Of Bounds'' is an action drama serial broadcast on BBC1 in the United Kingdom. It comprised six episodes that were broadcast weekly between 16 March 1977 and 20 April 1977. The story line involves two teenage gymnasts, a boy and a girl, the girl is played by Barbara Slater, an Olympic gymnast in real life. The elder brother of the boy was being blackmailed by a gang of crooks because his fingerprints were on a gun that had been used in a robbery, though he himself had nothing to do with it. As well as training for a big competition, the two gymnasts endeavoured to help the brother and they successfully got hold of the gun and tracked down the baddie in the sports hall just before the contest.
