David Knowles (footballer)
John David Knowles (1941 – 26 January 2011) was an English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played for Halifax Town, Bury and Bradford City. Career Born in Halifax, in 1941, Knowles attended Clare Hall County Secondary Modern School, playing football for the school side and the Halifax representative side. He joined hometown team Halifax Town at the age of 17 and signed professional forms six months later, going on to make 72 appearances in the Football League over the next six seasons. Halifax () is a minster and market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, England. It is the commercial, cultural and administrative centre of the borough, and the headquarters of Calderdale Council. Bradford is a city status in the United Kingdom, city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. Oakenshaw, West Yorkshire
Oakenshaw is a village located in both the City of Bradford and Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It is located midway between the town of Cleckheaton in Kirklees and the suburb of Wyke in Bradford. The village is close to the M606 motorway. The village's main shopping centre is on Bradford Road and its main church, dedicated to St Andrew, is a grade II listed building. Transport The village is served by Low Moor railway station on the Calder Valley line with services to Leeds, Bradford Interchange and Manchester Victoria. Another line serving the village was the Spen Valley Line which ran from Low Moor to Mirfield via Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike. Another branch of the line connected to Dewsbury but this line closed in 1965 to all traffic. It is now the Spen Valley Greenway. The Bradford derby is a football derby match played between Bradford City and Bradford (Park Avenue). The derby has also been called the Wool City derby, referring to Bradford's history with the wool trade. The two clubs are the only two from Bradford to have played professional league football. Brighouse
Brighouse is a town within the metropolitan borough of Calderdale, in West Yorkshire, England. Historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated on the River Calder, east of Halifax. It is served by Junction 25 of the M62 motorway and Brighouse railway station on the Caldervale Line and Huddersfield Line. In the town centre is a mooring basin on the Calder and Hebble Navigation.
