David Jenkins (composer)
David Jenkins (30 December 1848 – 10 December 1915) was a Welsh composer, best known for his choral works and hymn tunes. Born at Trecastle near Brecon, Jenkins was apprenticed to a tailor at a young age, due to the death of his father. He did not take an interest in music until he was nine years old. At the time, Jenkins was a member of a choir which was to compete in a local Eisteddfod. At age sixteen, his musical interest deepened and Jenkins began serious study of the Tonic-Solfa system. Two years later, he received an advanced certificate from the Tonic-Solfa college and began conducting his own choir. At age 20, Jenkins and his choir won a competition at Llanddeusant. He next turned his attention to the study of composition, harmony and counterpoint and was awarded a prize for the best anthem from the Tonic-Solfa college. David Jenkins (rugby, Born 1904)
David Rees Jenkins (12 April 1904 – 13 August 1951) was a Welsh dual-code international rugby footballer who played rugby union for Swansea and rugby league for Leeds RLFC, and representing internationally in both sports. Rugby career Jenkins joined Swansea from Neath in 1924 and, while with Swansea, faced two touring international teams. In 1927 he played against the New Zealand Maori rugby union team, and then in 1927 the New South Wales Waratahs. Jenkins gained his first cap for Wales team when he was selected to face the Waratahs again in their 1927 tour. Jenkins's only other Welsh union cap was in the 1929 Five Nations Championship when he was chosen to face England on 19 January. Under the captaincy of Ivor Jones, Wales lost their eighth consecutive game at Twickenham with the final score 8–3 to England. Major-General David John Malcolm Jenkins CB CBE (born 2 January 1945) is a retired British Army officer and a former Master-General of the Ordnance. Military career Jenkins was commissioned into the Queen's Own Hussars in 1965. In 1994, he became Commandant of the Royal Military College of Science. Then in 1996 he was appointed Director-General for Land Systems and in 1998 he became an Executive Director at the Defence Procurement Agency and Master-General of the Ordnance. He retired in 2000. He was appointed colonel of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 1997 He was then briefly Colonel Commandant of the Royal Armoured Corps in 1999, before becoming Colonel of the Queen's Royal Hussars later in the year. David Llewelyn Jenkins, Baron Jenkins (8 April 1899 – 21 July 1969) was a British judge. Early life and education Born in Exmouth, he was the third son of Sir John Lewis Jenkins and his wife Florence Mildred, second daughter of Sir Arthur Trevor. An elder brother was Evan Meredith Jenkins, who later served as the last Governor of the Punjab. Jenkins was educated at Charterhouse School and fought then with the 12th Battalion, Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own) in the First World War. After the war, he went to Balliol College, Oxford, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1920, winning the Hertford and Ireland scholarship. Jenkins was called to the bar by Lincoln's Inn three years later and made his Master of Arts in 1928. David Jenkins (Royalist)
David Jenkins (1582 – 6 December 1663) was a Welsh judge and Royalist during the English Civil War. Jenkins was born at Pendeulwyn (English: Pendoylan), Glamorgan, son of a well-established gentry family. He was educated at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, admitted to Gray's Inn on 5 November 1602 and called to the bar in 1609. In March 1643 he was appointed, against his will, as puisne judge of the Carmarthen circuit of the court of great sessions. He was a strong supporter of the Royalist cause in the civil war and, later that year, was involved in raising money for the siege of Gloucester. He indicted several prominent parliamentarians for high treason. Jenkins was captured by the parliamentarians in December 1645 in Hereford after the surprise attack on the city and imprisoned in the Tower of London, Newgate Prison and latterly in Wallingford and Windsor Castles. David Abbott "Ab" Jenkins (January 25, 1883 – August 9, 1956) was the 24th mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah between 1940 to 1944. He was a professional race car driver. Jenkins' interest in motorsports began with racing motorcycles on dirt tracks and across country. He then became interested in land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. He was instrumental in establishing Bonneville as a location for such events, and in attracting overseas drivers such as George Eyston and Sir Malcolm Campbell to compete there. He drove the Duesenberg "Mormon Meteor" to a 24-hour average land speed record of in 1935. In 1940 Jenkins set the 24-hour record of a average that lasted for 50 years (until 1990). David Andrew Jenkins (born 25 May 1952) is a former World ranked no.1 400m track and field sprinter who also ran other sprint distances. He is, statistically, the highest ranking Scottish sprinter in history, above 1980 Olympic 100m champion Alan Wells. He was part of the UK relay team which won a silver medal at the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics. Anabolic steroids were banned from athletics in 1976, and Jenkins has said that he began using steroids around then; although his times slowed from this point due in part to his increased propensity for injury. He was a finalist in the 1976 and 1980 Olympics 400m. He received a 7-year prison sentence in the 1980s for drug smuggling but was able to serve only 10-1/2 months by becoming an informant. David John Jenkins (born 2 September 1946) is an English retired professional football forward who played in the Football League, most notably for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. He joined Arsenal as an apprentice in 1963 and showed promise as a talented winger. He made his senior debut in a 2nd round League Cup replay against Gillingham in September 1966 shortly after turning 20. His league debut came against West Ham United in November 1967, when he came on as a sub for George Graham. Jenkins played in the 1968 League Cup final, in which he was injured in a collision with Leeds United goalkeeper, Gary Sprake. However, he did not secure a regular place in the Arsenal side until the following season when he made 14 league appearances, scoring three goals, before being swapped in mid-October for Tottenham's winger, Jimmy Robertson.
