David Hardy (businessman)
Sir David William Hardy (14 July 1930 – 9 April 2020) was a British businessman. Early life David William Hardy was born on 14 July 1930, the son of Brigadier John Hardy MC, an officer in the King's Own Royal Regiment, who commanded the Nile Valley during the Second World War. He was educated at Wellington College, which "he greatly disliked", and qualified as a chartered accountant with Hodgson Morris in Liverpool, before completing his national service in Germany with the Royal Horse Artillery. Career Hardy was chairman of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) from 1984 to 1987, and then chairman of the London Docklands Development Corporation from 1987 to 1992. He once had a DLR train reversed in order to pick up the Queen. He was chairman of the National Maritime Museum from 1995 to 2005. Sir David Hardie (4 June 1856 – 11 November 1945) was an Australian medical practitioner. Hardie was born on at New Spynie near Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland, son of John Hardie, farmer, and his wife Margaret (née Masson). He attended school in Elgin before furthering his education at the University of Aberdeen ( M.B., Ch.B., 1878), he worked there for two years as a demonstrator in anatomy, then started general practice in 1880 at Forres, Morayshire. On 6 June 1883 he married Marianne Jeans at Nairn. She was the daughter of Alexander Jeans and Isabella Blythe. His eldest daughter M.I.H. Hardie, (known as Helena) was born in 1886 at Forres. After gaining his medical doctorate at Aberdeen in 1887, David Hardie emigrated with his wife and daughter to Melbourne, Australia. They soon after settled in Brisbane and he was registered in Queensland on 5 May 1887.
