David Gordon House And Collins Log Cabin
The David Gordon House and Collins Log Cabin were two historic homes located at Columbia, Missouri. The David Gordon House is a two-story, frame I-house. The 13-room structure incorporated original construction from about 1823 and several additions from the 1830s, 1890s and 1930s. The Collins Log Cabin was built in 1818, and is a single pen log house of the story and a loft design. They represent some of the first permanent dwellings in Columbia. I-house
The I-house is a vernacular house type, popular in the United States from the colonial period onward. The I-house was so named in the 1930s by Fred Kniffen, a cultural geographer at Louisiana State University who was a specialist in folk architecture. He identified and analyzed the type in his 1936 study of Louisiana house types. Stephens Lake Park
Stephens Lake Park is a park located in Columbia, Missouri, dating back to the early 19th century. Today it serves as an arboretum with a lake, and a park spanning 116 acres. It is often used as a live music venue. History In 1818, a man by the name David Gordon built a cabin on the area that would become the park. In 1823, The David Gordon House and Collins Log Cabin were built using Slavery in the United States, slave labor. After construction of the manor was complete, the Gordons turned their cabin into slave quarters. The area was owned by the Gordon family for over a century. Then in 1926, the family sold the land to Stephens College. According to a news article from KRCG, someone purposely set David Gordon House on fire on November 9, 1998.
