David F. Weinstein
David Franklin Weinstein (born June 17, 1936) was a politician in North Carolina. He served as United States Democratic Party, Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly, General Assembly who represented the state's thirteenth North Carolina Senate, Senate district, including Hoke County, North Carolina, Hoke and Robeson County, North Carolina, Robeson counties. Early life He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. Career He worked as a merchant from Lumberton, North Carolina. After retiring he served as Mayor of Lumberton, NC from 1988–1992. Weinstein joined the Board of Trustees for University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 1992 and served two years as chairman. He served until his election to the General Assembly in 1997. He served in the Senate from 1997 through 2009, when Governor Beverly Perdue appointed him to head the Governor's Highway Safety Program. He was replaced in the Senate by Michael P. Walters. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. Jeanne Hopkins Lucas (December 25, 1935 - March 9, 2007) was the first African-American woman elected to serve in North Carolina's state Senate. Lucas was born in Durham, North Carolina to Robert Hopkins and Bertha Holman Hopkins. She attended East End Elementary School, Whitted Junior High School, and Hillside High School, where she graduated in 1953. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages at North Carolina Central University, where she was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. Lucas returned to Hillside to teach French and Spanish between 1957 and 1975. From 1975 to 1976 she served as President of the North Carolina Association of Classroom Teachers. Wilbur P. (Wib) Gulley (born July 31, 1948) is an attorney and former state and local elected official from Durham, North Carolina. Mayor Gulley served as Mayor of Durham for two terms, from December 1985 to December 1989.
